If I'm laid off, what are all the necessary steps I need to do right after? I'm assuming giving back any equipment, but outside of that?

@e2 also cobra is NOT a Medicare qualified medical plan.
Talk to an expert to get into a Part B, D or advantage plan within the required timeframe or you will pay a future ongoing penalty. Don’t listen to me, talk to an expert.
I activated my USA Medicare login last week in anticipation of layoffs.
It is easy and secure.
In some states you can open an account with the unemployment services anytime. Apply as soon as you get the notice. Know the requirements to receive.
Always keep you Resume up to date. Check that it is Applicant Tracking System (ATS) compliant. There are AI ATS resume checkers.
Keep in touch with people you know in the industry. Knowing someone is the best way to get a job.
Look into healthcare. If you are over 65, you need to apply for Medicare part B. Cobra will only be your secondary insurance. State health connectors can be cheaper than Cobra.
Depending how you're notified and how much shock you are in, do nothing for a few hours. If you're notified in person or via zoom then they will give you your next steps and timelines. If it is by email, don't reply, don't panic, just step away from the computer for have something to drink, tea or stronger. Don't go back to the computer till you are calm and have your emotions under control (and potentially sober). Technically, they won't be able to know when you have read the email, the best they can do is know when the email was downloaded from the server and potentially when it was opened if you have allowed read receipts. They can't and won't shut off your email access till they get confirmation that you read the email by clicking on the link they provided. Now, if you take many hours or days they may send follow up emails and eventually, they will likely overnight you something that you need to sign for, etc... and then they will terminate your access.
The most important thing is not to act rashly from emotions, don't rush.
Contact a lawyer and and ask them to check the layoff justifications. May be they can fight for you, go for a group class act joining with some other laid off colleagues.

@OP you'll be informed what the process is for your geography.
In the meantime I would make sure you have your own mobile and laptop, clear all personal stuff off Oracle owned devices and download your documents (payslips, tax forms etc) to personal storage.
Assume that if the worst happens, you'll lose access to Oracle systems immediately and planning accordingly.
If your cell phone is being paid for by the company then contact the provider to transfer the number. I would also print to pdf your previous reviews.. not sure how useful it is but won't hurt.
@a8 Since you have to sign away your right to sue to get severance, most states won't make you wait to collect unemployment. You can file right away and start collecting as soon as your claim is approved. Most states do have a one week waiting period.
How much the weekly benefit is and how long you can collect it will vary by state.
Download all payslips and email HR to send you the remaining ones.
You will need to calculate some numbers to apply for unemployment.
If you get any Fedex letter asking you to apply, DON'T. They probably only use it to embellish their H1B justification.
Try not to burn any bridges that you haven't already burned.
The market for jobs su-ks, with fake postings or oversubscribed postings. (Watch out for scam job-posting or invites with links that download malware.) Unless you have niche skills, you may have to wait it out until the AI hype dies down. Your profile should project that you have a long runway/career ahead of you, and you could be hired on a budget. Goldilocks profile - just right.
Are you in the US? Regarding unemployment, check with your state's unemployment office. In SOME states - definitely Florida - if not all of them, you won't be eligible until the end of your severance period.

You will be told if it happens, it depends on the region. Some regions have gardening leave. You will be asked to send your laptop back at some point. You will be told what you have to do to get your severance. Basically, you will be told.
