It’s OK to be angry

So rumor has it that people’s lives will change again on 9/14.

It is OK for you to be mad if you’re caught up in this and you lose your job. Not one person will be terminated next week because of your performance, dedication or hard work. You’re going to be RIF’d because of other decisions that are being made way above you. I have watched this company for years, make bad decisions and then clean them up via layoff.

And if your name and or your team ends up on the short end of this, it is going to be directly because someone, some human being made a determination about the value of your work. And I think it’s OK to channel that anger.

Because I’ve been on the other side of putting these lists together and it is way less scientific than people want to believe. Gender, race, age, and whether or not leadership likes you has more to do with this than anyone here would want to believe.

I’m sorry that everyone has to go through this now has to experience this. But my guess is you’ve been there long enough to have seen this and survive these. So no one should really be surprised that eventually they come for everyone.

And the only person that matters at Oracle is Larry. And what that means is that eventually all of these SVP’s who constantly survived the chaos one day too will be asked to leave the company. How different the leadership team books from but it was just 18 months ago and what it will look like 18 months from now.

For my money, it’s OK to think that the senior people in someway or sociopathic monsters because they’re so easily capable of creating these situations.

And after you get through your anger, things will be fine, but don’t suppress your emotion and or talk yourself out of feeling the disappointment that this will create.

And for the love of God, do not post a Moore message on LinkedIn about thanking Oracle for all the great years.

I'm not the grammar police. I'm the anti-grammar police: calling out linguistic gatekeepers whose contribution to the conversation is nitpicking someone's writing (style or spelling or syntax or punctuation) while they themselves transgress in ways large and small. Why are those who know the least about linguistics often the loudest about "correctness" (paging Dr. D cough and Dr. K cough)? Ideas, compassion, and action are more important than perfect writing-mechanics.

Huh, I would've guessed they do it more foolishly and unwittingly than with impatient eagerness -- unlike those (emotionally mature seniors?) who are ITCHING to utter Dunning-Kruger.

On "full display," you say? Please do share your expertise on the studies comparing the predictiveness of traditional demographic factors (like age: "young") vs psychological traits (emotional immaturity) and gender in producing internet criticizers.

"their first internet accounts" -- Gmail? iCloud? How old are these kids? Six? Ten? Sixteen? Are we talking Roblox? Minecraft? Khan Academy? ("Those tweens are so obnoxious with their DKE obnoxiousness!") DKE irony may be on display.

@bp It doesn't take much, does it? They remind me of very young, emotionally and mentally immature kids with their first internet accounts. They're just ITCHING to display their own immaturity by criticizing everyone else.

Dunning-Kruger Effect is on full display with this lot.

@bb I wrote the the original @at post but I didn't write any follow ups until now. Someone else is pushing your buttons. You went way over the top compared to my original post.

If you think that either your direct manager, and/or your "dotted line" manager, is not involved in putting you on a RIF list, you're 100% delusional. Of course, those managers you report directly to are the ones who submit your name to be RIF'd. That's why bootlickers tend to not get RIF'd.

I know what you mean in all these cases, so no biggie. But if you're going to be out there policing posts for style, etc, then it's probably good to dial it in. Show us your amazing example!

Where in the world did you get such a "rule?" Maybe OP used too many "And" sentences for your stylistic taste, but don't cling to everything your third grade teacher said. Google for one minute and you'll see. Or read some great writing and you'll see. Go ahead and criticize my writing -- I'm not claiming to be a great writer -- but I know your rule is bogus.

Maybe focus on starting sentences with a capital letter and avoiding comma splices (those are two independent clauses, amigo):

it is more than typos, Stop starting sentences with "And" and "Because".

The rest of it is superfluous. If telling you your writing is hard to read makes me a troll than so be it...

@a9 maybe some on the 8th but most on the 14th from what I’ve been hearing. If you are cut, for your well being, have an attorney look over your “I will not sue Oracle” agreement to get severance.
