Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

FMLA

Good morning, so I was just curious I’ve been with Centene for 4.5 years, this is probably the worst I’ve seen it… mentally and physically I’m drained! When say drained it’s not a joke, can we get FMLA for something like this? I’m in New York if that helps….

@fz … since Centene let me go back in May, my mental health and stress have all been relegated to stress from caregiving. Got let go on a Friday and was full-time with another employer Monday morning.

And it was at the behest of my people leader to quote… protect my job! Centene mistreated my mental health the last few years there. And trying to have FMLA in place to help care for my parent with cancer and ALZ was too much of a liability for them I guess. I wouldn’t go back for all the tea in China.

Be careful… I applied for FLMA Caregiver accommodation at the behest of my former people leader, and poof… two weeks later I was sent packing.

@b1 i’m sorry that happened to you. I think that’s what’s gonna happen to me once I return from FMLA. Did you get any severance when they terminated you? Hope things worked out for you after you left Centene… Hopefully less stress!

I am currently out on FMLA due to a surgery. You have to go through Lincoln financial to do everything. My physician signed off on the forms and said when I would be allowed to go back to work. As long as you talk to your doctor and they agree to sign the forms you should be all set.

@OP yes you can get intermittent FMLA to protect you if you need to call out last minute or for appointments things like that. Mine is for anxiety and exhaustion from all the stress this place is causing me.
You can get caregiver leave if you have to take care of a family member, a newborn etc. You get up to 6 weeks pay they can be intermittent or back to back but you have to pay back your portion of your insurance premium. If you don't pay it back they normally take it out of a future check.

Lincoln Financial is great and very supportive. Just be sure to go in and log in any time off on the portal or call it in.

Don't be afraid to take FMLA but don't abuse it because Centene they will try to find any reason to get rid of you and not have the pay your severance. They are weesels that's for sure!

I worked with Centene for a long time and never thought that I would end up disliking my job and the company. I was also physically and mentally drained. Talk about Physcological saftey that they pushed. Not good for me; they didn't care. I took the 12 weeks of FMLA and my short-term disability so I could get 60% of my pay. As soon as I got back, they kept me working on the required training and, no interaction with anyone else for 30 days. Once those 30 days were up, they terminated me due to performance. LOL. This company was a great place to work before the reorg. Best of luck to all of you.

Yes, you can get FMLA for this (I did for this exact reason). However, Lincoln Financial will ask for access to your medical records in order to pay you for your time off (FMLA is just protected leave, it doesn’t pay you). So, if you don’t already have medical records from a therapist or physician, approval for the paycheck replacement might be challenging.

Contrary to what someone above mentioned, you are not responsible for all health insurance premiums, only the employee portion. Since you won’t be getting a paycheck from Centene to have your portion of the premiums deducted, you are responsible for paying these to Optum.

Good luck and I wish you the best. Taking that leave is the best thing I ever did for my well-being.

Get on the Lincoln website. There are many types. Ones not mentioned yet are intermittent leave and ADA.

I would doublecheck the policy in Archer, but I'm pretty sure that you can get FMLA for anything that your doctor will sign off on. I've had multiple coworkers go out for 6+ weeks due to things like stress, grief, and exhaustion.

There's just a bunch of hoops that your doctor has to jump through when filling out the paperwork. Then your salary is reduced to something like 60% of normal, you have to pay all of your healthcare premiums, and you have to use all of your vacation and PTO.

Yes you can. If you doing it to help family member or children or spouse that’s family. If you going based on your health then that would be medical or personal leave. I suggest call Lincoln financial and see options
