they don't vote for felons or billionaires. It is fair asf.
It is just legislation that got to this point.
Summer in Europe is quite something....in some countries things just shut down for the period and they all live on the beach or in their cabins. Whilst exceedingly jealous I did like hearing of these things from EU colleagues
The work life balance and issues like this are why so many US mugrate to Europe. Check out German work laws. Amazing. Also, compare the US PTO guidelines to EMEA. Now compare the laws for maternity leave. WTF, right? In the US we have to live to work, in EMEA, they work to live. They go outside, they take tine off, they have family gatherings, they meet up with friends, they socialize, they travel. Most of us work, sleep, work, and we are told we can travel a d make time for ourselves when we retire. Kind of hard to do that when you can't retire until you sre 80- if you are lucky enough even then...
Whoever said life had to be fair?
Many European countries simply have much better worker protection laws. For example where I live (not Ireland, made redundant by PayPal earlier this year), if a company wants to do layoffs due to redundancies, they need to actually be able to prove that the workers are no longer needed as they have nothing to do, and that the company also can not offer them any other position. Sounds pretty difficult, right? So instead, companies try to make employee sign mutual seperation agreements, which come with buy-out packages. Or as my husband calls it - fu-k off money. PayPal is doing exactly that.

Because America blows. The CEO is not even American. He’s a complete failure and not American.
They value life more than money, salaries are lower, taxes are higher, life is better
Ask the American voters who continuously vote against their best interests.
Because in Europe humans have rights, labour rights. written in laws. In the USA corporations can do whatever they want with them.
Labor laws are more humane in the UK. All my UK colleagues have like 5 more holidays and a summer leave. Unfair but that is life.
@OP because their gov had listened to the people rather than the corporate ghouls that want workers to have minimal safety nets.

A history of workers demanding rights and a society that has not yet completely bent over for corporations. It would be even better in continental Europe compared to Ireland as any office there would likely be unionized.
Their government cares more about their citizens that ours (US).
