I hear chatter of layoffs coming to HL. September is right around the corner and it typically happens before Employee Appreciation week.

wrong. it never happens before. Always after.
I think we are ok until MPX is gone and them well come Feb when new budget rolls out we will see.
If you are under an Indian Manager and are really good your work, your position is at Risk. Because they want yes men and people who are not a threat to their own position.

I too hear the same. They have recently complete townhall and doing reorg.
I wish there were buyouts. (Sign Up) I know why JPMC does not allowed buyouts is because the wrong people will leave and leave the deadbeats at JPMC. Senior Management knows this if they were honest. For me it is a paid job search.
If you and your manager belongs to the same caste or if he is your buddy, you will be fine.
