Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Exit Date July 13 for those notified after May 13 earnings - many choices internal role or outside

Comments if your exit date is set as your departure (taking the package), Or choosing to roll. There are few internal jobs posting but not sure if real or posted just for fake pretend. I applied for every job I could, over 100 internal jobs. Four interviews, but no offer.

Tough job market currently, hope few land.

reapply for other jobs for a company that threw them out on the street and would do it again in a heartbeat

No one cares about the fate or goals of their employers anymore. The tech industry is destroying itself with layoff culture. Never again will employees go the extra mile for these companies. It will be like the US auto industry in the early 80s....doomed to failure because they tried going to war against their own employees.

Microsoft is a great example. Endless layoffs with more to come, and no amount of market dominance momentum can save it...just slowly rotting, with endless sideways movement on the stock.

i'm surprised by people wanting to reapply for other jobs for a company that threw them out on the street and would do it again in a heartbeat. You already know this dog is running a race it can't win.

I find on linkedin the amount of a-s kissing that people do on executive cisco posts is so utterly disgusting. Just about every company that cisco purchases they destroy and just rinse and repeat. The posts about cisco and their security is laughable. Some smuck deleted the entire webex US1 datacenter on k8s before cisco live. Yeah super secure and all the day zero exploits that are happening on their routers. Who can take them serious?

My homelab has zero cisco equipment in it and i've been there for 20 years. What does that tell you?

As candidates, we are being exposed to the most childish behavior I have witnessed in thirty years. For example, a job ad from a security startup was floating around LinkedIn for a while. Okay, let's go for it...but in the application, they state they want you to contact them on LinkedIn to get some "secret word" so they can be sure you aren't an AI. Ooookay, so I contact this guy on LinkedIn. But he keeps me reeled in to some endless and stupid conversation where he's making it clear he just wants me to grovel. People are actually being exposed to stuff like this for real.

This is the norm...D-listers who have just happened to survived somehow somewhere are now living out their weird power fantasies in the hiring market.

Or how about the applications that ask you four different ways what your s-xual orientation is?

This is what happens when you have an industry staffed by incel kiddults.

Same scenario for me as the person above. A role that I matched perfectly with, required a different grade, so I guess they'd rather get someone completely external. Oh well. Im taking the package and running, luckily I know where im going.

The market is ridiculous right now, AI one way interviews, take home projects, you name it.

I'd come back if they pay me a ridiculous amount, for the last few working years I have left. Maybe next LR I'll just retire.

I tried some of the internal roles and even had some intro conversations but nothing materialized. One guy was like, "I need Grade X for this role, and you are Grade Y"...to which I responded, I'm basically a future former employee, I don't have a Cisco "grade" anymore as far as I am concerned. Just heard crickets in response as expected.

Having luck getting multiple round interviews but nothing clinched so far. Also getting a ton of rejections, but I knew that was the case and its a numbers game.

Salary bands are down. I'm not talking to anyone who is offering me a salary bump that is noteworthy. Also, the pickiness of companies is unreal. They want Nobel Laureates to apply to write for loops. In another era, passing the tech screen was a clinch...now I'm getting all the way to the end, passing all the interviews and still no offers. Companies are either just window shopping or other candidates are getting the roles.

I just hope I get something before the AI bubble bursts and 50k more devs get dumped on the market.

@c6 i already have another job, will become head of csirt team. That is a reason ill for sure leave cisco. Can get double salary for a few months, as well as sign in bonus for my new role. For me, that biggest win ever this layoff. But, ill for sure create an internal act to forbidden buying stuff from a company that has this altitude with layoff, because security is about consistency of delivering, not about random layoffs skilled people and ki-ling product. Imagine,.those days i was asked to choose a SIEM solution. Top vendors are splunk, microsoft or palo alto. Would you invest into a splunk? Which will be ki-led with this altitude within a 3-5 years? SIEM is long time investment and i do not want to rebuild monitoring within a few years... rather to avoid buying them as well as work for them. If they have a no clue how to use people, how they can have a clue what to do with product? ...

@b0 same in SBG! should've been more strategic in deciding who to cut, many roles under the same VP that I am being asked to consider this late in the process. bet on yourself and skill set and find a better opportunity. or wait until FY27 and come back

Some HR people approach me directly that they have opened positions I may fit, even with higher grade (3 HR contacted me with 3 opened positions in cybersec). I rejected it, because cisco is terrible company, and i do not want to work for it.
