Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Rumor is that some VSPers (2024) and enhanced severance employees have been..

allowed to come back to work at VZ. Anyone else heard this?

The VSP and enhanced severance employees in 2024 were not supposed to be re-hired

I've heard of one VSP person that came back as an FTE. They were apparently critical in some way and negotiated this.

For someone who took enhanced severence, only as contractors after 6 months, and they have been known to stretch the 30 month rule. I actually know of someone who applied for an employee role and made it all the way to an offer before HR discovered it (these people are marked not rehireable) and blocked it. I also know of someone who volunteered for the VSP but made the mistake of telling his boss he was going to retire anyway and the di-k of a (senior) director blocked his acceptance, so he left with no payout. If you had the standard severance, you are rehireable as an employee after 6 months.

After 29 years of MFS,Worldcom,MCI, and Verizon, being lead engineer on 2 major fiber builds, and sr transport engineer for 4 states was good enough for me . Come back ? No way .It was my time to go and enjoy my life and not have to worry anymore about deadlines and metrics. I was fortunate to hit the buyout in 2024 at the right time of my life .I was told by my financial advisor that I planned well and to enjoy life while I am young enough. The only metric i worry about now id my golf handicap with other guys my age. Good luck to those who need to come back as a contractor, the folks that I know who did it were all not renewed or offered to come on as VZ employees.

My rif in December. Severance contract said I can come back as an employee after 6 months. But I don't think I would.

It has happened frequently because leadership don’t actually know what people are working on. They get Riffed and then things stop working and the company has to beg to get them back

@a7 I know enough people came back as a contractor and converted to be employees and massively promoted last year..

Rule is for advertising...not to be kept.

There are some rumblings that not everything has worked out from the 2024 changes and that some of those folks may be on their way back. We will see!

As employees, no. Unless, you are apart of an acquisition by Verizon after you left on a VSP, then you are allowed to stay as a VZ employee, just no time bridge.

As contractors, yes, You can come back to work at VZ, just not as an employee. I know many people that did, even back to their old job in some case.

It’s made up rules. All it takes is an executive with a need and a request to legal/hr and the “exclusivity” is wiped away.
