Thread regarding SAP layoffs

What’s the Vibe? Big Layoff Announcement Coming?

Trying to catch the vibe and see through the fluff here. I see a meeting with potential future board member (JG) on the calendar, an earnings call, an all employee meeting, and then a wider team meeting following that.

Personally, I was going to leave the company in short order, but this feels like re-org and layoff damage control on my calendar.

What’s the temperature in the room where you are? I’m remote and have not been plugged into the roomer mill in years. Any concrete info?

When is it going to be announced?

@re Need to get through the earnings call. The meetings I was focused on occur the week after the earnings call. One of them seems like it could be a goodbye for a mid-level executive. It’s two meetings back to back. Seems like a goodbye possibly.

OK, smart a$$es....where are those layoff plans then?
We had the big meeting....so, why is there no announcement?

When CK says AI will be a painfull transition that means layoffs unfortunately. What else would be painful except him taking a pay cut?

@ep exactly this. Look at what Snapchat did today. Cut 10% of their workforce despite crushing their targets, and they flat out came out and said it was because of gained AI efficiency.
Deny it or not, it's pretty clear what direction this ship is headed in. And it's not one that most normal non-executive employees will like.

A big layoff is coming - each country has it's own tax treatment for redundancies. Why else do you think they extended Gina's contract despite her complete, public fumbling of bonuses? You can bet on it - and it will be accelerated if Q1 performance does not meet budget/street expectations. Hide your head in the sand if you want - but all big tech companies will report "efficiencies gained from AI" as the reason.

@e2 And this is the reason they pay their financial people a lot of money, to skirt around these tax laws, a valid reason will always be found for them to do what the he-l they want

No big layoff coming. The reason is simple: the costs cannot be deducted from taxes easily.

European tax law only accepts expenses for restructurings as extraordinary if they are that: extraordinary. Repeating the exercise year after year defies the idea and leads to additional taxes.

@ar or you are in a higher age and/or pay range.

@ar SAP is definitely not meeting Q1 expectations. The executive board will only blame the shareholders, the customers and the employees. As they cannot do anything to the shareholders and the customers, they will inflict pain on the employees. Even if the share price goes up with the layoff news, it will come crashing down again because of the lack of direction and strategy. And when the share price goes below €100, SAP will have some of the biggest layoffs ever while still paying CK millions in bonuses. This company cannot heal till people like CK and DA are gone.

@ar at this point, you don't know if being let go is a blessing in this kind of toxic environment. Let it be. I wanna show what kind of drama they gonna put on.

My uninformed prediction - smaller layoffs now if Q1 earnings do not meet expectations, then mass layoff Q1 2027. Gird your loins. The saddest part is that you could be a hard working, dedicated and talented employee - but you could easily get the chop rather than your less capable colleagues because you are in the wrong location, a targeted business unit, or you failed to play the political game.

Just try to cool down the temperature. I remember everytime after earning call is all employee meeting? And big team meeting is usually at the end of month, so might just coincidence?

I have similar strange sequence of meetings and it doesn’t feel right to me too.
That said, the writing is on the wall. Oracle and Meta recently announced large layoffs which we usually copy, the share price is free falling, and the Chief Nepo Officer all but gave the game away this week with his warning about the upcoming pain of moving to become an AI company.
I’ll always remember fondly the SAP up until Bill left, but it’s been a dumpster fire to work at ever since this guy took over.
The party is over, colleagues. I can’t wait to get outta here and find something new.
