Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How quickly after RIF are you starting the job search?

I know this varies based on your severance amount, if you are the only earner in the family, etc.

But for you personally, how long will you wait to start the job search? Do you plan to take any time off for yourself before starting a search?

Starting the joke search now will still almost certainly also result in you taking some time off. However involuntarily.

@b0
I started a few months ago, only because the situation was becoming more and more ridiculous.
Plus, I was reprimanded by my director over reporting code of conduct issues with departments we deal with. I knew it was time

lol AFTER?!? I started mine 4 weeks ago when the whispers started. Been around here long enough to know they’re always true. We’re all sc--wed. The job market doesn’t exist. We’ll all be waiting tables, making 25k a year.

As a person impacted by a past RIF, I'll advise what worked for me.

Take the weekend off and then a few days. Let it settle in, then start reaching out to your network and leads. Reach out to several recruiters and talent fielding. While the job market isn't great, there are opportunities in the interim that can keep you up and running. Especially in engineering, you should be able to do well. If you're getting paid until the end of the year, relax a bit. This may seem earth shattering to the impacted individual, but it's not the end of the world.

Something that everyone impacted will realize is that the company has led you to believe that you're based on and identify with what you do at the company as your personal identity. You will see that there is life after this company.

Already have a p/t gig to help stretch severance. Other than that I’m going to collect as many weeks of unemployment as possible until it runs out!!

@OP This might sound counterproductive, but if I’m RIFd I’m going to take a weeklong vacation at the beach to reflect and regroup.

Done started. Applied with T-Mobile and have an interview the first week of December. Not gonna take any chances.

I'll start applying immediately. It can take a while to get hired and I don't have the luxury of a second income.

3-5 months or anything adjacent to what I’ve been doing. Probably look for something part-time to help stretch the severance while I take time being able to enjoy not being on call

@ Newgrad I cold applied for this one. Though a few months ago a Meta recruiter reached out and I didn't even apply. Didn't make it to final loop for that though.
