Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

Has anyone received their severance check yet?

Still waiting for mine. Agreement says payment will be made "as soon as practicable" after termination but within 30 days.

I don't suppose I should be surprised if they make us wait the full 30 days...

@25s Nope, some tried but as far as I know they were dead set on everyone's coverage only running for the month. Surprised they didn't pull coverage sooner at this point.

@1ab any chance negotiating extended coverage as part of the layoff?

@1a6 Definitely not COBRA. There are good options out there you just have to shop around. There is life after T. Rowe! Stay positive.

@zc It already ended (as of the end of February). So now it's either the state healthcare exchange (for those fortunate to have one that's robust) or COBRA (which is last resort level).

@em you think it’ll be GS and not another fund manager?

Looks like the GS acquisition is inevitable. Time to jump ship. Nearly 5 years here, but between the corporate mess and a petty manager, I’m done. No looking back.

@bb If we have the luxury of holding that money, yeah we can make interest, but seriously, most banks do not pay the best interest rates...it would have to be invested, but if someone has to pay their mortgage and feed their kids, that isn't an option.

@b8 Thanks for the info. It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that . . . I don't trust them.

@aq As you mentioned you get the money back when you do your taxes. Looking at it another positive way….you are getting a huge lump sum immediately instead of waiting say 6 months to get it. You can gain interest on that money in the bank upfront. In the end it all evens out.

There’s a waiting period (about a week) from when you signed the severance docs to when you’re cleared for the payout. Depending on when you signed, it’ll either come during the next pay period (2/27) or the one after (3/13).

Thanks for bringing this up - my turn hasn't come yet, but it is good to know they pull this cr-p on their former loyal workers. What su-ks is the amount of taxes taken out due to it being a big lump sum. You'll get it back when you do your taxes next year, but people likely need it NOW.

When I got canned, I think the deposit took about 15-20 days to hit my account.
