Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Above the “policy”

So just to get this straight - there aren’t “remote work weeks” but leaders can just randomly work remote for a day here or there? If they are responding to work emails and engaging in work with their team then they are technically working right? Which means they aren’t taking PTO. Isn’t that remote work? Meanwhile I am expected to be IN the office?

Who is monitoring this? The timecard and attendance piece? Or do rules not apply to “so called” leaders? Asking for a friend and my colleagues who actually follow the rule. Just curious if we should start calling the “speak up but you won’t be heard line.”

In resilience this is a joke. SBS takes off more time than anyone but also claims she out of PTO. Gets to work remote during the holiday but told her team to be at work. And JJ doesn’t ever work. There are only a few leaders actually working.

"Your manager should treat you like an adult, meaning they should trust their team members to be where they need to be."

@fg this is Nike, you really think that's a thing?

Prior to Covid, the unwritten rule was 'I'm working from home on Friday'. Everyone knew what this meant 'I was going to pretend to work.'

Rule still applies today, just don't have a policy to protect it.

I'm still full remote. It's probably why I'm still here

Your manager should treat you like an adult, meaning they should trust their team members to be where they need to be. If you have a doctors appt mid morning, start your day from home and come in when you’re done. If you’re under the weather and can get your work done remotely, keep your germs at home. Have the cable guy coming out sometime in a ridiculous 6 hour window? Work from home while you wait for them. Just communicate with your manager and team mates so they know what’s up and how to reach you. Worry about yourself and your own whereabouts. Monitoring and complaining about your teammates just makes you seem insecure and whiny. If someone on the team is abusing the privilege of trust and flexibility, that’s your manager’s concern. Maybe you don’t know all the circumstances. Personal situations like medical accommodations would be kept confidential. If they’re not following through with their work responsibilities and it’s impacting your own workload, address the workload issue with your leader, but keep it focused on the work.

Why is everyone not back on campus already? Some peeps who work remote have 2 jobs, yet they laid off a bunch of peeps who came in regularly and did their Nike job. Soooo much money being wasted on the 100% remote people. Ridiculous.

there's actually no rule .. you can just work from home sometimes. read the handbook. flexibility is absolutely allowed for. maybe just try it? and stop whining?

@at what you were describing sounds like a very isolated incident that could be resolved with talking to someone higher or the HR business partner. It most certainly is a common practice across Nike to work from home if something comes up. Elliot himself has even said it in the past. I’m pretty sure when they took away the weeks. They actually mentioned you can still work from home if you have something personal going on.

This is a non-problem in the world of a lot bigger problems

@a7 well the problem is that when others are told that working remote is not an option….mot even for these one off situations there in lies the problem. Where do you draw the line? Do you keep a tally? I’m pretty sure we aren't treating everyone equally. Said “leader” told us that we needed to be in the office.

This isn’t the “old Nike.” Clearly the morale is in the toilet and these so called leaders are the very reason. “Do as I say and not as I do.”

You do realize that anybody can work remote a day or here there, right? NIKE is very flexible on Work life balance and if you have something going on, you can work remote. Leaders should have the same ability to do that as anyone else. Kids have things that come up. Doctors appointments have fun. Sometimes people have to be home that day. I’ve never seen a problem with this and I’ve been here a long time.

I’m not a leader, but I also believe in a fairness. I do not think it is fair to single them out if they are not being egregious. If they’re working weeks at a time remotely, then absolutely if they need to be held accountable. Nobody should have their butt hurt if they were remote for a day because you don’t know what’s happening in their life.
