How likely is that there will be Medtronic layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

There will definitely be a RIF. All companies are being asked to cut spending this year. I expect it to happen closer to April for MDT.
MDT layoffs coming to the theatre near you!! Grab your seats
That's a great way to utilize AI. Unfortunately, Medtronic keeps pushing us to use AI to create ppt and write our emails.
I watched "Trading Places" again over the holidays. The executives who sent my job to India remind me of Randolph and Mortimer Duke. Randolph to Mortimer: "Mother always said you were greedy". Mortimer: "She meant it as a compliment."
Ironically, I work in the financial industry now. I have multiple master's degrees focused on biomedical engineering and am in the end stage of research on AI for medicine. But Medtronic has left me jaded to the point where I don't think I want to work for a medical device corporation again. It's like being a Private Investigator hired many times to stake out cheating spouses. Picture a PI who has seen too much infidelity and doesn't want to get married.
But medical research with AI in academia is very fulfilling with lots of great collaboration. I may just go deeper that way for new medical school programs that focus on AI with my role as a research scientist in that field. I expect to start publishing next year for AI and medicine.
How does the board not care that they’re making money on the backs of layoffs? The cost of hiring, then laying off with severance, still hiring, then layoffs again 6 months later is costing so much money and losing lots of tribal knowledge. GM has to go!
You rarely hear of Boston Scientific layoffs, so being stable can be done with the right investments and quality system.
@p9, only 10years and your bailing already. Clearly your training sux'd, most of us 15+ plus come into the office everyday doing jackshait, just waiting for a VERP
Gave my notice after 10 years. This company is not what it was when I first started
Got almost $100k raise for my new role
Try and get out before GM and his buddies sell this company to the bones
Remember to put yourself first, then work 40 hrs/wk. No reward for going above and beyond the call of duty. The sh-t show will continue with or without us. Working harder/longer only puts more $ in GM pocket. Set a New Year Goal of prioritizing you.
@h8 .... bye bye to LCOV I guess, my azz that robot will keep your MDT core OU's in the black.
And do better with less. 50-60 hour work weeks will be the normal
Key word they keep using is ‘focus’.
Take a look at what 3M did to ‘regain focus’ by spinning off Solventum.
I know the diabetes spin was announced prior to EM taking an interest in the company, but I wouldn’t be surprised if another large spin is coming down the chute.
Spin-offs seem to ‘generate investor value’ while also ‘maintaining focus on our core’
Hears a thought; get your @ss back to work and stop wondering about d-mb stuff. Couldn’t hurt to get your head examined as well. Do that.
@cc Wrong, regular (unprotected) PTO is paid out, protected PTO is not. Read the policy.
No question. I overheard Geoff talking about it to his buddy at the Wayzata yacht club the other day.
It’s a matter of when, not if
Come on VERP .... 2026 is your year to shine gifts on us dead wood 55 + yrs olds !
Still running over budget in some areas. Most likely another series of layoffs for 2026 and I’m guessing it’s going to be worse than 2025
Wow that’s bleak.
It’s not a coincidence that the new PTO takes effect at the beginning of the year which ultimately will not pay out your first 40 hours since it is unprotected. Will save Medtronic millions in severance/unused PTO “if” a mass layoff happens. They’ve been planning this for months.
The question isn’t whether RIF will happen. The question will be how big.
My prediction is the next RIF will be the largest we will see. Our shareholders are suffering.
Possible RIF in 2026 of course, will it happen IDK nor does anyone else. IMHO
Well I heard that a significant haircut is in line.
