Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The best part of the year working for T

As a lowly technician with 25 years, this is the best time of year to work at this place. Most of the middle management is on vacation, we work on important things that have to be fixed right now, but the everyday micromanaging bullsh-t has disappeared until January 1st. I can come to work, do my job, fix things that are important andhave a stress free day. Thanks to all the managers whose absence makes this place better……

Everyday is the best day with the right leadership. I don’t know how I am going to take 2 weeks at Christmas without going to the office. But I can only carry over 5 days.. uggg

@fj your not too far off the truth!
Worked one year at almost 700 hours of Ot and just scratched 150k, so In order to reach that by May op is never home!
Unless he is charging OT while he is at home, which may be the reason they are doing away with home garaging!
Don't get me wrong T used to be way better 25 years ago but if your work ethics are good then you won't care what these micromanagers want, you will always do your job as best as you can and take some pride in your job that you get paid for very well!
Have been offered management but I wouldn't do that until I am ready to retire, that way If I don't like something rolling down hill I can just walk away!

WTF! Management that allows there’s wages for craft should be fired immediately!

@as
"Yep - we have bets on which one of us will reach the FICA limit for SS withholding first. Usually one of us wins the bet by May!"

If that's true, $176k by May in craft, your wife is ba----g someone else because you're never there.

I'm intimately familiar with what you guys make.

I make enough in less hours that I actually get to USE my boat, not just look at it when I get home at 10PM every day of the week because my lifestyle is based on OT.

@be
“If they don’t care I don’t care”

That is exactly how I feel now… As a tech for over the last 1/4 century with T, I would take SO much pride in my job. NOBODY did my job better and I am a true expert in what I do. I would see AT&T halftime shows and “This presentation brought to you by AT&T” and beat my chest with pride. Now, after all of the layoffs, the new processes that make no business sense and needless micromanaging - I want to sp-t at the tv in shame. There is no loyalty. Now, ending tech home garaging that we’ve had since day 1 which will end up costing the company so much more, just so they can enforce who has the power? The company has made their point. I am just a number that can be replaced at any time or just eliminated, no matter how good I do or how much my customers appreciate me. They don’t care about anything but numbers on spreadsheets.
With that said, the company has crushed my spirit. I am just a beat down man now. I no longer care.

The bast part of the year is right! I swipe in the office, go to my focus room that I booked for 8 hours, sit in there with the lights off and watch Stranger Things on my phone all day while drinking the free coffee and eating the free snacks we have here in HQ. Life is good!

You want to see lowly, come work in an office. You guys bragging about how much you make and all the stuff you get, then bashing people that work in the office that make less and get treated like dirt. You guys are a special breed let me tell you. Oh, but we’re “management,” you have no clue. We don’t manage anything or anyone.

This is always the best time of year. I dont do anything. If I accomplish anything, its too late to add to this years A&D accomplishments. And to early to add to next years goal. So whatever it is can wait until January.

Lots of stuff to get done between now and the new year, but the boss will be on vacation part of that time. If you can, never take vacation on days that your boss is on vacation. Working without your boss is almost like a vacation.

28 year tech here.

If there's one thing I've learned over the past several years: Nothing is important. They like to play risk management now.

If they don't care, I don't care.

Most of the middle management is on vacation

The "management" people who aren't supervisors or up hate both the middle and upper management just as much as you do. Most or those people you refer to are simply following orders from their higher ups and will be axed in favor of someone else who will if they don't. That's the way T does things. If you rock the boat, you'll be the one who is put on the get rid of list. And if you are too smart such that you are a threat to your boss in intelligence or productivity, you'll also be put on the get rid of list.

"Lowly union techs make more than management, get better benefits, better job security and have more vacation. I think you don’t understand the meaning of the word lowly. If you need help with it, just look in the mirror you’ll see what lowly really is."

Yep - we have bets on which one of us will reach the FICA limit for SS withholding first. Usually one of us wins the bet by May!

Pitty those that jump to mismanagement and then have to deal with the Stink's BS!

Stink is a POS!

yes the techs are micro managed. only some need to be - just like some managers need to be. and yes, most bargained for jobs are better than the management jobs.. that is why most techs turn down lol "promotions" into management. once you lose that union protection, it is a rough ride on the management side. and yes, most techs take pride in their work and really do want to fix things that need fixing without interference (most dont know anything about fixing things). but you have to remember that most managers dont want to micro manage.. that is not a choice - it is top down direction that is being tracked.

Micromanaging is for weak minded people that have no idea how to really manage employees. Fortunately for T, management is full of weak minded people.
