Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

I appreciate you!

One of the most overused phrases I have heard at U.S. Bank is “I appreciate you!”.

Word to the wise, stop using this phrase. You sound like an insincere fool. If you truly appreciate someone, show it in your ACTIONS not with empty words. Vampires 🧛.

@j7 i say this too. I have a team of 15. I tell them there’s not a whole lot i have in my control - can’t for them more time off and only have so much control over raises etc. but i do feel true sincerity does go a long way and making feel appreciated is an easy give. I once heard you should never wait to tell someone thank you or that you appreciate them and I’ve been trying to be more mindful of that.

@eh Please do not use the severely outdated expression "do better". There are much better ways to express your sentiment on this topic. And please strive to capitalize the first letter in each sentence when you post. Failure to do so while scolding others on their usage of the English language is hypocritical.

I'm really sorry. I personally say this a lot at the B because I really do appreiate the person I'm saying that to for helping me when I'm in a bind. I'm just trying to spread a little kindness in an otherwise drab and thankless environment & somehow show some gratitude. There's not a lot more I can say or do at my level but sometimes I get a person a small gift if they are local to my hub.

I guess I can say nothing & never get any allies & just be miserable silently like everyone else. Fine.

Don't forget the overused phrase "Change is good". Ummm no, not by itself and sure as he-l not every time. Ask yourself why you've gotten to the point of even having to make this change and what was missed so you don't repeat the same mistake. Oh! Oh! But "there are no mistakes, just lessons learnt". Bite me!

@ac Right? When you are constantly having to pivot you end up going in circles. Sounds about right for US Bank.

@OP The same applies to the phrase the bank uses. "Thank you for everything you do". Useless words that mean nothing. As an employee you can give them your best but when they need to cut numbers or raise profits they fire you in a heartbeat without taking into consideration the work you have done.

Management, especially the clueless and useless middle management, is so unskilled that when they hear someone else using a term that might sound like a buzz word, they immediately adopt it and use it endlessly. The first time I heard the fake term, I appreciate you, was from Mike Wolfe on American Pickers a decade ago. Our management picked up on agile 20 years after every normal company so it's no surprise that they use a fake term from a decade ago.

I had a manager who constantly used the word "pivot". Every conversation, all we did was pivot. She thought she was a genius with this D-mbbell word. I always wanted to tell her that if we had better management and consistent planning we wouldn't have a pivot fire drill multiple times a day.

It’s downright fu--ing bizarre what management gloms onto here, in regard to praise. ‘Disingenuous isn't even the word. ‘Insulting’ is a better word.
