When to provide notice and still get bounus

I have received another offer and plan on leaving. However, I want to ensure I still get my bonus. What are the rules around that and when should I put in my notice? I obviously can’t ask HR or my boss this type of question…

Whatever you do, don't give them a means of sc--wing you. Don't say a peep to anyone about leaving until the day after your bonus is in your account.

@ac also, it's been my experience the bonus check does not hit earlier like other paychecks. Must be due to the amount.

Don’t announce your departure until the business day after you get the direct deposit. They can halt the payment up until the last minute. I put in my two week notice last year the Wednesday after the bonus payout, in the off chance I’d get laid off that Tuesday. (I didn’t have a new job firmed up, just several interviews in process, so TOTALLY would have put things on hold for 60 days to get that severance.).

@am . Short answer is it’s at the discretion of your current manager. But guidelines say that if you worked thru sept 30, 2025, you are eligible for 2025 bonus which is disbursed in early February.

I received clarification from HR this morning regarding 2025 bonuses. If you are displaced in Jan 26, you are eligible for your 3025 bonuses. The email that went out to all employees at the end of December was for the 2026 bonus pool.

New for this bonus period…..to clarify, you are still an “active” employee even when you give your notice. But you cannot have provided your notice by the payout date or you are ineligible to receive it. So as other posters have said, do not give notice until after February 13th (official bonus payment date, regardless of when it hits your account). If you are a Vice President as an officer title, your notice period is 30 days. If you are an Executive Director or Managing Director officer title, it’s 60. If you are below those (or don’t have an officer title at all), then you are not subject to the required notice period. If you are and don’t adhere to it though, they will not go after what they paid for your discretionary bonus, but they can go after any RSRs that have vested to claw them back or ask for the value of them back if you cashed them in and they will mark you as non-rehire eligible.

I gave notice in 2024 and checked with HR - have to be an active employee to receive bonus. I wouldn't leave until the following day.

if you are subject to notice period then has to be after the bonus hits your account. while the official pay day is Feb 13, it could show up a couple days earlier due to early pay day. to be on the safe side the earliest I would do it is the 13th. bit to be really safe wait until Monday the 15th. as long as it isn't showing pending in your bank account you are probably fine and I doubt they would try to claw it back. in terms with the new policy in effect from 2026 about not being on voluntary notice period to get your bonus. does it apply to the 2025 bonus or just 2026 going forward?

Been there done that. Good advice above. Wait at least a week after bonus hits your account. Then send a short terse email yo your boss with the date of your last working day and that you intend to work your notice. Then be prepared for your Boss to ansolutely pile you up with work during your notice period.

Tell them after the bonus hits your bank account and you transfer it to another bank account.
