Thread regarding Optum layoffs

@er that’s a good point. Just seems odd with all that has gone on with reorgs etc. I would think more notice on retiring would be given to allow an easier transition for the successor and the team. Just my opinion.

Today our director informed our team that she is retiring effective 7/3. Seems like odd timing and even more odd that more of a notice was not given if this truly was a planned retirement. Seems like the retirement decision may have been “forced” or perhaps as a result of finding out big changes are coming and our director chose to jump ship instead or being rif’d or reassigned. Our team is losing a very valuable and respected leader.

@bh ridiculous comment, PMs anticipate and mitigate risk, let alone manage people and steer the ship. It’s really nasty to invalidate and reduce the value of others in favor of AI. I hope your job goes first! RUDE!

@bg why exactly do we need PMs anyway? That's one thing AI can do very well - facilitate and summarize meeting, generating status reports and creating user stories. In some companies ICs take turn doing the agile "ceremonies" and it makes zero difference. Unless the PMs are technical and doing other technical things it's a waste of headcount, better to spend that money on tokens or analysts.

Yes they are finalizing the numbers, heard many VPs are traveling offsite to decide the fate of people they have no idea what they do or the value they bring. I know people with absolutely no work other than setting up a few call(PMs, scrum masters, TPM, POs, senior managers etc) surviving for years and some with so much work adding to value, in IC engineering, architecture, analysts and ops roles that got RIFed. So don't waste your energy trying to figure this out.

I don't know details but something is up this week lots of leadership traveling this week through Thursday and out office messages for senior leaders. Lots of changes in organizational structure were noticed this week. All hands meeting to take place on Thursday.
I can sense something big is happening.
