Since I haven't been here long enough to qualify for anything close to a decent severance, I'm wondering if I'd still be able to file for unemployment if I end up getting hit by the cuts. I just want to know what kind of safety net I’d actually have if everything goes sideways.

The answer in TX is yes. And after paying into unemployment for 30 yrs I took every week given to me. No shames given.

Yes depends on the state. Mine is yes but you have to wait the same number of weeks as the severance. So if you get 4 weeks severance, your unemployment begins at week 5
