Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

More Upcoming Layoffs Planned

There’s talk of more layoffs coming, although the last round didn’t address the real issues and was just a quick fix to cover overspending. Cutting experienced employees with deep knowledge of the systems has created gaps that are hard to fill. The company is losing people who understood how things worked, and new hires don’t have the same level of expertise. Until leaders make real changes, it’s unclear how things will improve.

@t06 Scrum masters got promoted to managers. They only know how to create epics, features, user stories and they can’t even do that job by themselves. Some managers have zero technical skills & zero leadership ability.

@syz Oh sure, because firing bad managers is so easy, right? Tremendous idea, really. Just walk in and say “you’re fired,” very popular phrase, I’ve heard it before. But companies? They don’t do that. They keep these managers, some of the worst, believe me, because of “relationships,” “process,” all these fancy excuses. They say things like “institutional knowledge,” which is just a beautiful way of saying nobody knows what they actually do. And replacing them? Too risky, too complicated. People get nervous. So the bad ones stay, the good people leave, and everyone pretends it’s working. Total disaster, but nobody wants to admit it.

@rk3 yeah why don’t they layoff the unworthy managers in every team .Saves a lot of money… Individual contributors are always ignored at F5..The okta folks just bring their own sheep regardless.

@r7d Folks, you’re going to love this one. Really, it’s incredible. We’re hearing whispers, very strong whispers, that there could be some “adjustments” before the end of the year.
Some people call them layoffs, we call them “efficiency celebrations.”

And let me tell you, moving those quarterly bonuses to once a year? Genius. Absolutely genius. They say it’s about “streamlining,” but what it really does is keep that extra cash nice and warm right up until, bo-m, fewer people to pay it to. Tremendous savings. Nobody saves like this. It’s like a magic trick: now you see the bonus, now you don’t, and maybe the employee too.

But don’t worry, everyone remaining will be told they’re doing a fantastic job, maybe the best job anyone’s ever seen, while quietly doing the work of three people. Incredible strategy. Truly.

Guarantee there will be layoffs before the end of the year. Moving quarterly bonuses to once a year was to save extra money when people are let go.

@jzx The butt kissers in manager positions always dodge the layoff because they are so friendly with SVP’s.

@jz4 easy --- sack senior directors and directors and senior managers. That would be good for abt 27%

@jnw

Re-orgs are about to happen across all organizations, as another poster has mentioned. SVP’s were given the task last month to reduce budgets by 4%, which could mean layoffs for some……

@jev Indians love reorganisations. A wise move when nothing else is working to keep the management appearing busy and productive.

@3tq Thanks. Looks like they have a linkedin page that is sleazy. They have a quote attributed to Deming that he never made in an attempt to give them credibility. Sigh....

A poor attempt at word smithing too.

“Best place to work” lists require an application from the company. Other than in India, F5 hasn’t applied in at least 6 years. (I’m from the HR team and these lists take a lot of time to apply and have not been prioritized)

@1vk are you talking about the horrible, useless projects? Maybe new hires opened up eyes when they realised wtf they signed for. Frankly, I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe clueless managers tried to “manage” experienced engineers. We don’t know. I don’t know. We will see. They better move fast. They better stop wasting time. Who should be fired?

My colleagues were let go to make room for new hires who were supposed to do the job better. However, the new hires are now saying they don’t want to take on the tasks the previous staff handled, so they’re looking to hire additional people for those duties. Meanwhile, my manager went on leave due to stress, as they were replaced by someone with the same title, but told they now report to them, even though they’re technically peers.
