Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

@7bw They're only required to disclose "massive" layoffs, not constant little ones like Lumen is doing. Surprising, as the stock market loves layoffs - stock prices usually jump when companies are shedding those pesky employees.

Why doesn't Lumen release any data related to RIF's for shareholders?

I got cut today, due to "restructuring".

My team member got called mid meeting also. He likely got cut too. I'll see next week who all is having their last day.

@5nf how is your snarky reply treating you now. 20% on a lot of teams today.

I’m 58 and have 34 years. I guess I missed my notice 9 years ago. Looking forward to it though. Sooner rather than later would be nice.

@5nf the hits come every week / day. They’re just keep churning staff before you hit 49.5. I’m 48.5 and was chopped

@5p7 Yes, Lumen offers severance IF you promise not to badmouth the company, which is why you don't see a lot of details given by people who have been laid off. It's 2 weeks for every full year you've worked, but there is a max, so working 30 years gets you the same severance as 15 years because Lumen isn't a decent company

@57s That su-ks. They're doing a lot of small, continual layoffs. Must be trying to skirt some rules about reporting. It's that kind of company.

@5cj
Any job that requires sitting in a chair all day. Doesnt matter what that job title is or how successful the person is or how many years they have. Not trying to downplay anyones role but those jobs will be the first to go and easiest and cheapest to replace with ai or low paid replacements. Eventually the remaining in house techs will be gone and the ceo's job will be done and she can float away on her golden parachute.

Got shown the door yesterday after 15 years dealing inept senior managers who who have zero clue, just treading water until they get the shoulder tap. I'm sure KJ and Brene are all ears to have people let down their armour and have people tell them what's really going on behind the scenes. They don't care, and never have

I was cut this morning after 30 years. Folks they're making the rounds....

Guess it's really not so bright and sunny at Lumen - Get out while there's still time.

@4db I’m sure they would be happy, better then a pi---d off angry employee that some poor mgr that probably had no input to you getting rif’d has to listen to you vent how horrible this company is and won’t survive with out you.

I'm at a point when they day of reckoning comes to me, I'll just laugh uncontrollably at them. Would love to see their facial reactions to that.

@3t7 They did a huge layoff in March and there was no evidence of the Lumen 8 behavior. No one saw it coming. No transparency. There will be more

Really depends what your job with the company is. If it’s craft, that’s a whole different world trying to lay off every 3 months.

It’s definitely coming. Sometime between now and 2029. Count on it for sure. It’s only a rumor on this sight so it’s absolutely going to happen sometime. I talked to a guy at the post office who’s neighbors brother lives next to a 2nd level who he overheard on the phone say “yes, cuts definitely need to happen. And soon. This can’t last another 3 years”. But he might have been talking about the tree limbs over his driveway…

@OP I was told by my Manager there will be layoffs every quarter this year. Not sure anyone will be given the full picture, but if they are following what all the other tech companies are doing it could be significant . I am waiting for Lumen to use their own Lumen 8 behaviors like clarity in this situation. As we have been told repeatedly "Clear is kind".

So was the rumor fake or did the RIF not happen yet? Why doesn't anyone back up their claims with details?

@38s

Started with US west in AZ. Had just enough seniority to take an opening further north and save my job in 2001ish during the qwest monthly layoff announcements.

Which era? The one where employees spent half their life working for a company and retired from that company? Yes, that era is over.
