Not the great place it used to be
Miserable place to be for the last few years. I still haven't recovered since getting kicked aside in 2014 after more than 20 dedicated years. These execs should be ashamed of what they have done to a great company and the dedicated people who made it that way, but they are in a different world and do not care. It's that simple.

This sounds like the typical recent college graduate (millennials) I am in contact with, They are naive and live in a fantasy world thinking they are an all-star and have a sense of entitlement. If you are doing better then your co-workers then your manager will recognize it unless they hate you. If you feel like you are not appreciated, then you should pursue other opportunities outside the company.

Your LEGAL contract with the company
To: All of you whiners out there, you signed or agreed to a legal contract with the company, as with 99% of US company's your employment is AT-WILL. Knowing this going in means you should expect to be terminated, plan accordingly, and don't blame the company, its just business... most of those terminated that I'm aware of were less than adequate performers, or had been with the company so long in the same or like role that they were making way over open market wages. If you are making more now then you can get from other employers you are at risk.
At-Will Employment: Employment at McKesson is at-will except for those employees who work
pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement where the collective bargaining agreement
provides otherwise. This means that unless you are employed pursuant to such a collective
bargaining agreement, you or the Company may terminate your employment at any time, for any
reason or for no reason. Nothing contained in this offer of employment shall be construed as
guaranteeing employment for a specific period of time or for future employment. No Company
representative can enter into an agreement contrary to the Company's policy of at-will
employment without written approval from the Company's Executive Vice President, Human
Resources.
How do they do it? Call? Conference with HR?
How does the actual act of communicating that you've been laid off happen? Do they call you in a >conference room? If yes, who is there?
What do they tell you?
How long does it take. I am extremely nervous, if there is another round then I am expecting to be laid off, not sure why, I just have that horrible gut feeling that things are not working out.
Hey OP, thanks for designating your own post as "A TRUE #GOLD POST" Mommie always said that you need to love yourself before you will be able to love others!!

Once upon a time Chevron was a great company run by great leaders who invested in great prospects
Today, Chevron is a cube farm of PowerPoint rangers run by managers who measure their success by how much money they waste. On top of that equation for disaster, over the last decade, the company allowed a plethora of strangulating processes to govern activities....down to the way you drink coffee....with lids only.
The laws were written into stone without any care or understanding of the consequences. The result is that all the folks that spent years in technical schools learning a skill are prohibited from using it. The folks that have devoted their lives to the job (crusty ops folks in particular) have no voice in any BU.
Look at the leadership. Is there anyone there that you want to grow up and be like???? Hell no. Responsible for failure after failure with no personal admittance of the fact.... What the company has turned into makes me want to vomit.
Chevron forgot how to make money long ago, but they damn sure learned well how to waste it. >Leadership at the matrix is like the blind person telling the deaf person what he saw.
I just heard a turkey, see yall later.
Moving On............
This starts the first day of my new work life. I have been making contacts and actually found a couple of things in oil and gas. It is going to be tough until the prices turn around, but it will not be impossible.
If I could give some advice to those of you that stayed. The first would be to work hard, and make your job count. Be the first to take on new responsibilities and try new things. The second would be to stay off these Web Sites, and not get involved with rumors. You made it through the first layoff, so good for you. If you stick around these Web Sites it just makes you cynical.
I wish you all the best and good luck on your job hunt, and for those that stayed keep the working hard. Make every day you come to work, because it can end in a blink of the eye.
All jobs are temporary. Unemployment is a new beginning. You might go through the cycle of denial, despair, anger, etc. On the other hand, for many of us the colors are brighter, the birds sing sweeter and the world is an infinite range of possibilities. Maybe now is the time to consider a whole different career, or a move closer to family.
Maybe this comment wont be important for the majority of people here. Some of you will ignore it, most of yall wont bother to read and it'll go unnoticed along with other comments maybe I'll be criticized for this but i just want to let yall know I'm selling potatoes.

What keeps you working at Anadarko?

America in Decline, Our Restlessness is Our Unease With The Situation
Rampant selfish greed has overtaken this land we call America. Our republic has peaked and is in decline similar to Greek, Rome, Britain, Mayan, Aztecs, USSR, ...etc. Declines take time towards full implosion however. In the interim there will be outrageous acts to be witnessed in a brutal unstoppable free for all.
My Two Cents of Thoughts
After seeing some of the comments here I must say that most of the things that's been said are true. First of all, this company is not that bad of a place to work and there are a lot of good hardworking people in here. However, it's obvious that they practice nepotism in this workplace although I see nothing wrong with it. But in doing so, they tend to hire people who are not " so called" qualified for a position and they base their hiring judgement just because somebody is related to someone in the company- and that's pretty crappy in my opinion. And I think this is where the "clique" starts. Take for instance one of the high up managers on one of the depts here has this "assistant" and this person does nothing but read newspaper or magazineorvmaybe order some food when there is a meeting but that is it. In fact this said assistant "resigned" Ifrom the job to spend summer with their child but the position was NEVER posted for an opening because the boss "saved" it for when this person came back and work for the company again after resigning. So basically, this assistant resigned for the summer and then came back when the school started back up. That is BS to me. How can someone allowed to do that?! And why would HR even approved it? This is where the grey area in this company's ethics. If they do like you, I guess you're safe otherwise you're S.O.L. Is sad to see a good company that is being run by people who exploit their privileges. I hope the administration will re-structure things that need to be fixed. Just my two cents of thoughts.
Communication issues
Communication in this place is very poor. Often, employees hardly know what is going on throughout the company. Decisions are almost always made with haste without communicating to other departments. A lot of lower level employees concern or opinions are not important. The reputation of this company is definitely shifting.
This is probably the #best #gold post I've seen here so far:
Hope you have your resume ready old timer... Sounds like you really have your blinders on. You probably remember when it was good enough to show up with a resume in a suit and have great interviewing skills, knowledge about the company and a degree.... Well be prepared now you need a professionally written linkedin, recommendations, professional resume to get past the hr software... Networking cards, additional separate more readable resumes tailored to the position, know someone at the company your applying to, and have something Elvis touched. And the money you love so much VZW is paying you.... Say goodbye to half of that... Easy. This isn't your old time job market. I'm not sour...I loved my job.... I worked hard everyday and commutted 2.5 hours a day to do it. The shock of it will hit you when it happens and even though we've told you all this... You will be unprepared, stunned and dumbfounded.

#It might also be a paradigm shift. Only time will reveal what this really is. Shale Drilling + Renewables + Environmental Laws + Fuel Efficient Vehicles + Complicated Geopolitics did not factor into the supply/demand equation in the past. Oil prices might recover quickly, but they might also take 10+ years to recover, nobody really knows. COP might be doomed, but with a recovery in late 2016 or 2017, it might recover and prosper. OPEC has a mind of its own is unpredictable - no one saw this crash coming, and likewise no one can really predict what will happen in the next year or two. It will be interesting...
The Constitution doesn’t say that you have a right to be free from other people saying things that you don’t want to hear. It says that you have a right to say whatever you want to say, and other people have to put up with that.

In CA, code 12941 states :the use of salary as the basis when terminating employment may be found to constitute age discrimination
The Legislature hereby declares its rejection of the court of appeal opinion in Marks v. Loral Corp. (1997) 57 Cal.App.4th 30, and states that the opinion does not affect existing law in any way, including, but not limited to, the law pertaining to disparate treatment. The Legislature declares its intent that the use of salary as the basis for differentiating between employees when terminating employment may be found to constitute age discrimination if use of that criterion adversely impacts older workers as a group, and further declares its intent that the disparate impact theory of proof may be used in claims of age discrimination. The Legislature further reaffirms and declares its intent that the courts interpret the state's statutes prohibiting age discrimination in employment broadly and vigorously, in a manner comparable to prohibitions against sex and race discrimination, and with the goal of not only protecting older workers as individuals, but also of protecting older workers as a group, since they face unique obstacles in the later phases of their careers. Nothing in this section shall limit the affirmative defenses traditionally available in employment discrimination cases including, but not limited to, those set forth in Section 7286.7 of Title 2 of the California Code of Regulations. - See more at: http://codes.findlaw.com/ca/government-code/gov-sect-12941.html#sthash.oHSymLaO.dpuf

Negotiating severance terms
I would assume that the terms are standard and non-negotiable for the severance...but I thought I'd go ahead and ask. Did anyone try to negotiate some different terms? For health care, or end date, or anything?

Have a Laugh .... Read the below.
To: All Employees
From: Human Resources
RE: Layoffs
As a result of the reduction of money for department areas, we are forced to cut down on our number of personnel. Under this plan, older employees will be asked to go on early retirement, thus permitting the retention of the younger people who represent our future. Therefore, a program to phase out older personnel by the end of the current fiscal year, via retirement, will be placed into effect immediately.
This program will be known as SLAP (Sever Late-Aged Personnel). Employees who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the company. SLAPPED employees can request a review of their employment records before actual retirement takes place.
This phase of the program is called SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers). All employees who have been SLAPPED or SCREWED may file an appeal with the upper management.
This is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination). Under the terms of the new policy, an employee may be SLAPPED once, SCREWED twice, but may be SHAFTED as many times as the company deems appropriate. If an employee follows the above procedures, he/she will be entitled to get HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel's Early Severance) or CLAP (Combined Lump sum Assistance Payment).
After getting HERPES or CLAP employees will no longer be SLAPPED or SCREWED by the company.
Management wishes to assure the younger employees who remain on board that the company will continue its policy of training employees through our Special High Intensity Training (ST). This company takes pride in the amount of ST our employees receive. We have given our employees more ST than any company in this area. If any employee feels they do not receive enough ST on the job, see your immediate supervisor. YOUR SUPERVISOR IS SPECIALLY TRAINED TO MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE ALL THE S**T YOU CAN STAND.
#gold - the site keeps blocking my IP but I log in from different starbucks allthe time
A little bit of clarification here. The site does track your IP address however they note that they (layoffs.com – see privacy policy) disclose it only if legally required (court subpoena) or if your post is threatening someone or something.
So, do not do anything illegal (e.g., smear, defame, etc.) and do not threaten people/objects and you are good here.
Getting a subpoena is hard, costly and time consuming and I really think that you need to irk someone really bad to get to that point which brings me to the next topic – the origin of your IP address.
If you are in Starbucks you are on the same IP address as 20 other people sitting there. Good luck figuring out who posted as the site tracks just the IP address, there is no way in hell anyone can track that down.
Also, if you are using a proxy service (like HideMyAss.com – there is a ton of others) they will hide your IP address, so there is no way they can figure out anything.
So, I’d be careful about what I post (stay clean from the legal standpoint), and I would not worry about from where I post…
Old timer wise words. Its foolish to leave a company with a boatload of in he money stock options no matter how shitty you think it is.
Because going to.another company will be great... For the first 6 months to 1 year. But after the initial moonlighting, you'll end up.complaining about the same bureaucracy, bullshit, corporate politics, and question the company's future the same way you complained about your previous employer.Except at least with your previous employer, they gave you a lot more money.
Old fart already learned what naive youngster hasn't yet learned...the same smelly corporate shit you hate.at.one employer exists at the next one. You just haven't been exposed to.the bathroom stalls until you get there.
And the golden rule is, whichever company pays you the most to do the least amount of work to allow you to achieve f--- you status quicker is the only thing that matters. Then you can do whatever the thing you want, because you can say the two most powerful words without consequences that everyone strives for.... F--- you.
It is obvious that this is a good venue to vent and to share information.
Many that visit this sight do so to experience what is happening to friends and colleagues. Many visit to vent their frustration and anger. Those that are truly humanitarians share critical learned information and advice to help their friends and colleagues to help them with their journey and transition.
For those that stay in the business or eventually return to our business there is an age old prayer quote from a roughneck that applies " Oh Lord, please give us one more boom and the sense not to piss it all away before the next bust, Amen."
For those looking for a job remember how adaptive and creative our industry is and use this quote on your resume'.
"I have done so much with so little for so long that I am now qaulified to do anything with nothing at all."
#gold post - its simple, do your job, love what you do, add value, respect
After many years working in IT I was was let go today. First time being let go during my career and having always been dedicated to my job, always wearing the company shirt. This is a very sad moment folks. Hope you don't go through this. It is hard to imagine waking up in the morning and not having a job to drive to. I will miss my friends at Devon. I don't think a lot of thought was put to decide who stays and who should go. People you know and your influences play the most and not what you know. It seems very unfair (and I call it a game). At the same time people at the top getting promoted. There are still lots of incompetent supervisors and managers with no leadership or judgment skills around, while knowledgeable people, very good hard working people are gone.
Sorry you feel this way
I hope all is over for all of us very soon
NIGHTMARE
When will this nightmare be over I just want to do my job and enjoy my family. I'm worried sick throwing up blood just sick over this extreme stress. They are just trying to dream things up to get rid of us at any cost why is this happening. I don't think I can take much more!
Hmmm, a DUI lawyer? That's the only lawyer I've encountered so far. I know a few of them that would make sure all your DUI problems disappear even before they hit the court. #gold
Find me an Attorney in OKC!
I would like to sue them and I need to find an attorney in Oklahoma City who will litigate. I am open for a class action as well. I am sick and tired of seeing them run away with millions while they terminate us, the folks who built this company. They say one thing, and they do something else. It's time to litigate and I have plenty of issues to bring up, that's my least problem right now, they are guilty on so many counts!!!
#gold? Whats with the hashtag, or as we used to say, "number sign" or "tic tac toe board"? I went to twitter and that tag had tweets about teeth, the rising price of said gold, and a Spandau Ballet zinger. Nothing whatsoever about Verizon or any low rent seafood chain that I wont mention in this particular post. I dont want to get any panties in a bundle...... That list could be way better. How about "Guys, guys, guys!" or "Who shit on my desk?" or of course, "So and so is in charge today". By the way, never wear a blindfold to work unless your a magicians assistant. Multiple OSHA violations there Brad. Stop laughing out loud because its not funny

Great post #GOLD
The majority of the posts on this site are real, my friend. Some are written more eloquently than others, but the messages and responses show the worry and desperation a lot of the folks have. It's not easy to have given most of your working life to a company and are now comfortable with your job, the company culture and are at an age where to start over elsewhere is really difficult. We are in a global downturn and the markets are in a tailspin. Getting a job after 50 years of age in this economy is scary enough, especially when you have a mortgage, bills to pay, kids to feed and school. For men, especially, being the "provider" for the family makes these trying times an extra burden. It's hard to get a good nights sleep for a long time now.
Funny again how you'd assume I'm a whale who does not do work. I'll have you know, I started out making $40k here and I was happy at the time. I'm still happy now at a slightly higher pay due to a promotion. People who take pride in their work and have trust in their company are usually happy and grateful. People who do not trust the company or do not take pride in their work, BUT CHOOSE to REMAIN with the company always have a lot of misdirected contempt. My advice to you people is to quit your jobs and find something you love to do in a company you can trust to take care of you. Allow your jobs to open to someone else who would find satisfaction to be in your position.
This is so true #gold - and also the tax effect of #outsourcing is incredible
And on top of that, for every unemployed U.S. worker that is put onto the street over this apparent "cost advantage", that unemployed person ends up being a liability to the rest of us taxpayers, in terms of all the unemployment assistance the rest of us ends up having to pay in the form of taxes
