Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Poca Dotted

The entire field leadership of Cabelas was released today. Very close to the two year anniversary of installation of said structure. Our new leader from Wal Mart stumbled through the reduction with an embarrassing lack of charisma that befits his humble beginnings in southern WV. The twang in his speech revealed his lack of good upbringing. He is not unintelligent but is the type of creature that made his bones in a retail environment that rewarded people who could hold accountability quickly and without concern for the individual or their family.

Those individuals who were both skilled and heartless had the advantage in the post Sam Walton Wal Mart and or Sams world. Our fearless leader Paul Stone had both of these skills. He made it 26 years in that environment (no small feat) which is admirable.

During that time he ran into Scott Williams at Wal Mart who was making a stop at the renowned retailer on his climb up the corporate ladder. This connection would pay off down the road as he would be the man that would reunite the duo at Cabelas down the road.

Paul Stone had capped out at Wal Mart/Sams and was now charged with running the market neighborhood stores for the chain. These stores were not successful and as a result were mostly closed.

His hero came in the form of Scott Williams (now the CEO in training at Cabelas) who remembered him from the Wal Mart days. Scott hired him and charged him with gutting the retail structure. Instead of coming in and taking everyone out cleanly, he decided to swoop in and rain destruction on the stores during the Christmas season.

The leadership team went through Christmas, inventory and the review period before lowering the boom on the existing structure without so much as bringing one person into the future of Cabelas.

The culture is dead and buried and is now being run by a hillbilly headhunter from southern WV who has no class but only the credibility of being the biggest headhunter from a company that is known to be among the worst to work for.

Shame on Jim Cabela and Mary for not giving a SHIT about their employees and where we have gone.

Cost saving measures will bite the company in the end ( reduced inventory and long check out lines will turn customers off). The company is turning into another Wally World.

How true all this is. I have been employeed at Cabelas for just a year. It is a new store and I work part time. I went there due to their reputation. Corporate has cut so bad that no one is left to help the customers. I went in to work and was told My job was eliminated and sent home. No warnings or two week notice. Treated very poorly for a large company that states there employees are important to them.

It's funny that you accuse someone of being classless, yet you bring up his state of origin which has absolutely no bearing on the situation. In doing so, you invalidate your argument. Establishing that you are merely bitter and hateful.

apparently around 50 people were let go from the field in this round. District Managers as well as support functions that report to the district staff. Field HR and Loss Prevention were affected as well. The sad part is that these people were restructured six months ago and are now being forced to go through this a second time.

Very poor regard for the individuals in this situation. Entirely unprofessional. Tommy Boy is running the company into the ground.

How many folks were involved in this round of restructuring? They have been letting folks go all along, just doing it quietly

Sad to see so many good, talented people thrown to the wind. Tommy ran Remington into the Ground and has done the same here. It's just sad.
