My GM experience can best be described as "numbing". Even before the firings, I noticed how miserable most employees were and that showed in how they treated each other. I didn't expect a hug-fest environment, but also didn't expect the Hunger Games... — read more
CCA IT GETTING HIT HARD!!!
Many of my colleagues and I where let go this Morning. I’m pretty relieved that this is all over with now. Greener pastures!! :)
Compare Notes on Those Targeted vs Those Who Where Not
Trying to see if there was any logic other than target cost ... In our case the first person on the list of cuts was one of the most senior people ... but definitely the one with the highest salary. Then there were some new hires (who probably got... — read more
NO CONFINDENCE Vote on GM Sr Leadership
I vote NO CONFIDENCE in GM Senior Leadership Starting With M Barra (Who as a former VP of HR should know better). How could any competent leader have as many new hires as GM in the last 5 years ... and then implement such draconian cuts (including... — read more
Any Designers yet?
Still have not really heard of any Designers being hit. I wonder why?
The Monitor
Surely no coincidence that the layoffs were announced just as the Independent Monitor left.
Two sides of the TRACK program
I think it really depends on the individual and jobs you get when you're in your TRACK rotation. I learned and gained a lot of knowledge working on different programs at different times of the GVDP. I was able to grow a huge network through all of... — read more

Large conf rooms are blocked off, water bottles are in the room. Probably waiting for executive to arrive to start the axe.

Some light activity in WTC Design
HR room which had been empty all week now has a few people in it. The conference room closed sign has been on the door all week but the door has been left open. Door is shut now with the sign still on it. Not a lot of activity but a change.
Death Row empty today in Engineering West
Just walked through the aisle of conference rooms where "the talk" has been occurring. No HR or security down there as of current.
Where to drop off leased or bought vehicle .
Because payments can no longer be made. Any gate at tech center on weekend would work I'm thinking.
HR Dementors at VDOC today
The HR Dementors are at VDOC today. I'm one of the first.
Should the severance be signed or not? WARN notice question.
If I'm not mistaken the WARN notice provides the employee 60 OFFICIAL days advanced notice to that individual will be let go. I'm seeing that a WARN notice was issued for WTC correct? But was filed after or on the same day that layoffs started. What... — read more
Finally it dawns...
This all looks so much like a prep for a sale/merger. While that may soon happen, before that is this prep for a SPLIT, from Cruise. They want Legacy GM to look good on paper when it goes freestanding.
Time at GM 31 years but due to Delphi 10 years not recognizing years of service
I took the VSP for which I am thankful since this situation now breaks my heart. I was GM then became Delphi and then back to GM 2009 with the Delphi plants. 30 years with GM and 10 with Delphi. GM refuses to honor health care- no pension since went... — read more

Is there any activity at the Engineering blg?
Pontiac Engineering Center
Any information out there on separations being carried out at Pontiac? With the weather day yesterday it seems activity was suspended. I would suspect today things would be crazy but it seems quiet
Were you told to come into work?
For those let go this week, were you told to make sure you come into work?
IT Layoffs
Has anyone heard if they're done with IT yet--particularly in Michigan?
2/7 layoffs at the VEC
Any sign they’re happening today? Just saw HR walk through so I’m guessing it’s round 3
Contractors?
Are they done with contractors for now?
Layoffs happen yearly
Layoffs happen yearly, and it's not advertised. Usually it mostly affects the contract personnel depending on the program. The reason why this one was made public, is because not enough salaried took the buyouts. Every 8-10 years, GM bloats it's... — read more

My son was laid off on Monday, and he is devastated. I've never seen him like this. As a mother, it breaks my heart to see him like that. I can guarantee you General Motors that I am done with you forever. You lost a loyal customer with this move... — read more
They are NOT eliminating roles
If they are eliminating roles and not people... Why are job postings for eliminated positions being added to GM careers the same or next day people are walked out. And in many instances very talented people. The media should cover some of these... — read more
GM should cancel TRACKoffers and retain knowledgeable engineers
As someone who finished TRACK last year I’m not sure how you believe TRACK employees will lead GM into the future. Most (myself included) are completely clueless until someone shows them the ropes. I felt the program was a waste of time and I got... — read more

Another sleepless night

This is not the worst in GM history...
For folks that were around then as I was (and also impacted because my engineer father was unemployed for almost a year), this is not the worst in GM history. 16,000 were terminated back in 1974. Unfortunately Ford and Chrysler were hit too so job... — read more
List of “GM salaried employees chosen for separation”

Love engineering and tech but.....

M Barra should resign in disgrace
M Barra and all HR Leadership should resign in disgrace over how this process has been conceived and executed.
What's the logic
