Our workload is more than doubled in a lot of stores, doing task we have either never done or have not done for many years. I know store managers that have never done coursetracks, maybe other than an occasional buyback, but are now the text manager... — read more
@982 That was great advice just given. You are not your job. I'm going to try to remember that, myself.
I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you find work soon. My best to you.
@983 you will work through it.
I went through all the same feelings when I was laid off from a previous job. A big lesson to learn from this is you are not your job. People label us by what we do and we do it to ourselves as well. It will take some time. Try to focus on anything... — read more
you will get thru this
Anonymous982 : you will get thru this, it is normal to feel that way, i have been in your shoes, it gets better with time. something else will come, you will move on and follett will be a distant memory only. try to block negative thoughts, that... — read more
Follett aka "The Grinch that stole Christmas"
Not much hope in finding a job before Christmas, so tomorrow when everyone else is out shopping for gifts I'll be standing in line returning the ones I had already purchased. I know there a lot of people out there that have it much worst than me. I... — read more

I'm sure many of us wish we could know your plan B also. It's scary with this looming over our heads. Not knowing what's going to happen next. I feel like the Titanic is beginning to sink and I, for one, do not want to be left on board with the rats.
layoff criteria
was supposed to be first in last out to make it as fair as possible. Follett will suffer using this criteria. they probably think all this will die down and soon be a distant memory.
GM Managers
Anyone else notice no GM Managers were laid off...my understanding is the layoffs were based on seniority anyone know how they decided who was being kicked to the curb..."PEOPLE FIRST"... ya lets lay 600 loyal hard working employees off, without any... — read more
Part time jobs
I was definitely not offered a part time job, but was "encouraged to apply for one of the part time jobs being posted on November 18th." Also, according to info emailed out today, severance checks "will be mailed out after December 6th." Bullshit.
Still not paid final paycheck
Got terminated on Nov, 8th. Signed the documents and expected my final paycheck to arrive in the mail on Nov 22nd with 1 week pay (week of Nov 8) and the vacation remaining. It's the night of Nov 26th and I am still waiting to be paid for the work I... — read more
Plan B
I have a plan b.....wish I could connect with current and previous employees and show my plan b....as everyone needs one in this rough times
I know it stinks
But I still like it here... I hope things turn around...
plan B
current employees should also be making a plan b.
Everybody moving on now?
Well, you should. You'll get over this. Follett is a company undergoing enormous challenges and facing many new realities. They are a good company to get away from, because they kinda stink of death right now.

We were told that We would get our last 2 weeks plus what vacation time We had left. I was paid for 1 week and vacation. Are We getting screwed for 1 weeks pay? How ethical is that? I will be making another call this morning.
Holidays?
Are they closing the office over Christmas this year?
Anonymous882...
they have Fall 12 and Spring 13 to compare to. It will actually get worse and then there will be more layoffs to compensate. Blue light specials are minor with a decreased margin as well.
Anon.E.Mouse (in the trenches)...Removing comments?
why are your post getting deleted and who is initiating it? Is Follett working with the website owner to remove some comments that may be not layoff related? Or did someone from Follett IT code this website and it is randomly losing information.
@880
No, Like you I have not actually received it yet...just commenting on the 40 hour detail of the layoff. I have assumed it will arrive with mail tomorrow at our home address... but I know what assuming can get you with this place...
Paycheck
So you DID at least receive your paycheck? Did it coms to you regularly? I have yet to receive mine.
Final pay @880
Yes, I was also promised 40 hours on my final check and I also did not get it. Hours were low in my store that week so I was well below 40. Just more empty talking I presume.
rehiring
@808 Follett instituted a new hiring program where all applications must come online. Only the store manager can see the application because it shows the store manager's entire salary history. And only the store manager can enter requisitions for... — read more

Wonderful " phone call". I am not sure how they got away without doing so company wide? I am also curious if after paying anyone that signed the severance agreement will recieve unemployment or if the compnay will fight it?!
@881
I honestly dont think they can make up the hit they took in the fall. They believe theyve had two successful flash sales in the past two months. The issue with believing this is there is no previous data for Follett to look at and compare to... — read more

Severance was not issued yet. It says it won't be until dec. 6 at the earliest. Nov. 22 we received last paycheck and vacation payout.

Healthcare
Turning 570 full time employees into part-time means saving $6,000 in medical insurance premiums next year per employee or $3,420,000. And Follett gets a 1-year reprieve from complying with the Affordable Healthcare Act. The new part-time employees... — read more

Repercussions?
Does anyone know if there have been repercussions at the school level after the layoffs? I imagine some people who were brought over on a new contract are none too pleased. Did the Jewel in the Crown Notre Dame have layoffs?
