Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No one is picking up the pieces

The bloodbath of layoffs basically wiped out entire teams of people who maintained entire networks within the company. Since their departure, no one is picking up the pieces. Requests for service come in and there is no one left who even KNOWS that network well enough to work said request. They just pile up in the inbox. Entire projects are now in limbo because the teams who were running them are now gone and upper management ( 3+ ) is absolutely clueless about the damage that has been done.

And this is why we'll pay for these layoffs for years to come. Original poster is @YFmnpS8-2zmb.

Putting a lot more deck chairs on the Titanic to rearrange. Ever visited someone who lives in a nice apartment and they have bean bags for furniture and sleeps on a air mattress. Of course he drives a nice car but hits you up for gas money.

"I’m guessing you mean internally maintaining networks? We att treats paying customers that way every day. Join the club"

I am the original poster of that comment and, yes, I mean the internal networks the Company relies upon which allows AT&T remote access to the equipment that carries customer traffic so it can be provisioned and maintained.

Eg: I want to install an Optical Multiplexing system at location X as part of a ring that will carry traffic between X, Y and Z cities. That request goes into the system but ends up in limbo as the folks who could have worked that order to attach it to the particular network they want it on. . . . . . are gone.

Eg: We need to cut this office from X transport type to Y transport type in order to free up the distribution systems in office Z so the building can be vacated and sold by end of year. Except the id--ts in charge laid off the entire team of folks who did all the Y transport designing . . . . . brilliant :|

Eg: We need to cut all this traffic from a product that was End of Life a decade ago over to whatever the current architecture is. Except, we laid off all the folks who had any expertise in the End of Life product so now no one even knows how to access it to determine what is actually ON it.

It's a f*g circus

Let’s be honest, the answer is not to hire a vendor to fix it. #turfmustgo

Are all our Mobility datacenters outsourced? From my experience, there's like 2 guys in a Mobility datacenter, that shuffle paperwork for vendors (what the heck?!?!?). I don't understand how anything gets done on that side of the house. Any Mobility application/network change, flows threw a half-dozen clueless folks, that put their stamp of approval on it. 4 of the people, are worthless. The only 2 people that matter, are the person who knows how to document the change, and then the person who actually implements it. The person who implements it, is offshore, and working from the document. If one keystroke/mouse-click is incorrect, change is rolled-back, as offshore has no understanding of the work they are performing.

I hear this ticking sound and it’s getting louder. That is out network that is about to self implode due to neglect. Let’s be honest, the answer is not to hire a vendor to fix it. #turfmustgo

I know 2 network engineers who were responsible for internal AT&T company networks who were slammed always with requests who prior to their departure didn’t know who would take over their work. Whoever orchestrated this messed things up a lot.

Stop sending the requests, or delete your inbox. This is an easy one.
