Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How it works in CX?

From personal experience

Hierarchy-
SM > 2 , 3 executive VP > GVP > VP > May be another VP > Snr Director > Director > Group Manager > Senior Manager > Manager > 'You are somewhere here'

Any one above you would rarely work. Many of them would not even understand your work. No one in the entire hierarchy knows how to measure work or How to really identify talent from average. Single criteria you are the best is how good your are at su_ck_ing up your boss ba--s.

Developer life is he-l. You write code, do bug fixes, act as support engineer, manage customer environments, do dev Ops etc all at the same time in same day. You are supposed to know everything even if your boss does not know about it. Your working hours will be like 8AM to 11PM including weekends and even then your boss would give you a 2-3% raise. Sometimes you would be told markets are not good and may end up getting nothing.

best of luck future developers

Everyone in fusion who are getting laid off have the same skillset as they all use the same framework to develop appplications. There is no reason to layoff a single US citizen until of H1bs and L1bs are laid off. Can someone post the link for H1B sponsorship and layoffs.

It is legal. There is no connection between who is later off and who is hired. There are rules about hiring but it is not connected to layoffs.

Is it legal to continue sponsoring H1Bs and transferring L1Bs from canada (backdoor h1b) when US citizens are being laid off from the division ?

Are you kidding? Of course it's legal.

Is it legal to continue sponsoring H1Bs and transferring L1Bs from canada (backdoor h1b) when US citizens are being laid off from the division ? Every exec has mentioned the layoffs are in response to market conditions. Does not seem they are related to performance ?

Everyone in CX needs to start preparing for a lifeboat. Mid year check-in can only mean one thing - more layoffs coming soon. Folks in other pillars can chill.

CX org under RT has shrunk from 5000 plus to 2500 in last 18 months without any official layoffs announcement. This is no small feat to get away with. The CX org is able to sponsor H1bs, L1b visas, green cards because there are no US citizens available for hire. US citizens exist only to be fired.

I have observed it first hand in CX

Pattern I have observed from forums, internal news and friends from other divisions is, slow small layoffs,(sometime big), across different BU/division at regular intervals.

Layoffs across divisions has a shorter interval, currently its around 1.5 months to 2 months. This may be lower as I might not have all the news about layoffs.

Teams those are recently impacted does not see another one for a longer time yet the cycle repeats at longer intervals. The interval in my team has been around 13 months and most impact in US only, later replaced by cheaper resource elsewhere but never a single replacement in US.

All this is to ensure these number remain small and not highlighted in media. Back in days when there was a massive one, ORCL got a very bad reputation and impacted bottom line significantly. Since then it has been slow small layoffs at regular intervals

I hate to say it, I survived 6-7 layoffs but I have to manage good terms with my boss and work like he-l all the time. Please do not judge me, I have family to take care. am just one of like you. I know lot of good people were let go coz they have their own voice, and were certainly better than me.

I tried to raise my voice diplomatically but failed as others were not supportive, so in a way employees themselves are working against each other by not being united and work towards a better work-life and ethics.

Early development work was so simple and trivial. They had no chance of doing anything more complicated. It would not have worked.

When people have no real development experience, they have a difficult time seeing how complex something is to implement. Work by talented and experienced people can look simple, but it is not. It's just the talent and experience of certain people can make things look easy to do when they are not.

we had a project brewing within CX, in early development, original (cannot say details without doxxing myself) and Saleforce got nothing on it. unfortunately it was parked in favor of quick patch and small extension work of existing stuff. damn shame.

Who came up with that business model?
No wonder Oracke is such mess
And VPs are corrupt. They have nothing to do but take from Oracke & abuse employees. Would hate to be in their shoes. No purpose other than self .

That’s all about to change. Income can not support unnecessary salaries.

Are VP planning to purge all first level managers in CX ?

CX is mostly a dead division. Their competition is Salesforce. Whatever they try its not going to work for CX, hence this is the only way to run an org not able to make money.

CX is only their to complete the FA story, nothing else.

I do not see any visionary or extraordinary leadership either. Many of the Dev VP's are forced to follow everything from different departments with no say, no power over anything coming from top and nothing to innovate. They are simply following what is being said from top

Product Management simply copies from rivals, so nothing extra ordinary comes out from them. In fact chatGPT can write better features then most CX PMs

Those at the very top understand all this and just minting money for the titles and just cut the workforce when asked for a budget cut.

Whoever are stuck, be it Dev or QA or support should genuinely think about their careers and plan accordingly.

Because of the Oracle Doormat Principle

To avoid layoff at CX, if you unable to change, be an obedient servant and always say Yes BOSS. You are not an employee @ CX, just a modern slave. Hope new year bring good luck to get rid of CX drudgery.

RT all hand’s tomorrow. Generative AI exists in CX for last 50 years. CX had everything even before OpenAI released ChatGPT. CX don’t like to brag about things and gives it away for free to the customers.

Fusion ERP is a doing well. They have absorbed various team with more obsolete skill sets than Fusion and are very stable with no layoffs and enjoy the unlimited vacation perks. On the other hand, In CX , they have laid off with great technical skills mostly in US. This speaks about the future of CX.

If you are an IC, do not work very hard and enjoy life. Start saying NO to unnecessary demands, extended working hours and weekends. DONT be fooled by promotions @ Oracle. They are the biggest trap. Keep learning relevant open source technologies and get out. I know lot of people making 6x-7x following this strategy.

is it a common trait across the org?

My friends share many of the same stories at least across FA. CX for sure is worst. Some orgs are well taken care of but hard to find one.
