Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How it works in CX?

From personal experience

Hierarchy-
SM > 2 , 3 executive VP > GVP > VP > May be another VP > Snr Director > Director > Group Manager > Senior Manager > Manager > 'You are somewhere here'

Any one above you would rarely work. Many of them would not even understand your work. No one in the entire hierarchy knows how to measure work or How to really identify talent from average. Single criteria you are the best is how good your are at su_ck_ing up your boss ba--s.

Developer life is he-l. You write code, do bug fixes, act as support engineer, manage customer environments, do dev Ops etc all at the same time in same day. You are supposed to know everything even if your boss does not know about it. Your working hours will be like 8AM to 11PM including weekends and even then your boss would give you a 2-3% raise. Sometimes you would be told markets are not good and may end up getting nothing.

best of luck future developers

Vote +1 if u see these scenarios, is it a common trait across the org?

# 5+ yrs as IC with consistent best perf rating & no promotion.
# Mgrs and upper levels getting promotion every other year.
# Mgrs treating ICs like trash, taking credits of their hard work.
# No reasonable raises, bonuses or stock options to IC.
# 90% of the recent layoffs only affected the ICs.
# Favoritism within the team.
# Hiring family/relatives over others.
# If u complain or report any of the above to HR, no actions and just to top it off, u will risk your position in the next layoff.

Odds are high for another round, Jan 11 nd 16, watch out

Avoid layoff by working the last week of year .

Who ever is not available during the time could be on the Jan 16th list.

“ Another round of layoffs on Jan 11? Fake news ? “

They lay off all the time. Odds are that it is true.

Layoffs are concentrated in US.

Same for my team. Only US staff impacted. They found cheap replacements if US workers.

Layoffs are concentrated in US. Our team has hardly anyone left in NA. IDC counterparts have sensed this and are slacking off as well. Strategy in action.

I spent 20 years at Oracle before being RIFd, and I should have left after 10 max. The longer you’re there, the more stale your skills become. Don’t be foolish into thinking you have a long term career at Oracle. Move on, there are far better companies to work at.

Some wisdom worth repeating

Hard Lessons-

Self serve first. Corporate companies are not your friend. They are there to make money even if US citizens suffer. Cheap outsourced labor will one day take your job anyway.
Keep your self relevant by learning market relevant technologies. In today's time, stick to open source technologies. Do not work on proprietary technologies. In case you are stuck, have an exit plan.
Do not be lured by false future promises. Stick to what can be compensated in present. No one knows future, not even your boss or his boss.
You will be taken advantage of if you allow that t happen. Fight for your rights diplomatically if personal situation allows else have an exit plan ready.
Do not stay for more than 2 years in a place unless you see string future growth
Maintain a work life balance. I regret this as time lost will never come back.
Try getting side income, you never know when your side hustle will turn out to be life saver.
Save as much as you can and invest wisely.

It legit seems to be the worst company run by the worst people. I have never read as much terrilble stuff about a company this size. I recently left a well known company and their culture was terrible, but they haven't been around as long as Oracle. It seems like Oracle mgmt just let so many bad things happen over the years that people (the worker bees) accepted the bad behavior and traded it for a paycheck and bennies; I understand that....many have families and such. It's just terrible to see so many people who are hurting, have been hurt and will be hurt. My time at Oracle, like many, was the worst career decision I could've made. While it didn't ruin my life, it sure made me realize how many terrible people are lurking at these companies. Just so many bad actors. The sad part about it, what I felt, was that the bad actors, the sl--e, it was usually the people with the least talent, the least technical skills, the least ability. People who have good skills, who have been in the trenches, they just dont act as bad as these bad actors. It's just sad. I couldn't wake up every morning knowing I was a POS. There are just so many terrible people in mgmt there. It's sad. And the funny thing is they will totally scr-ew you, smile at you, and then say, "sorry, we just can't help you". Even HR. The worst. People with zero morals or empathy. Life is short folks.....you will eventually have to pay a price for what you did.

Exactly. I heard today that there are mid level VPs involved in Caribbean slot machines. How stupid can they be? Driven by greed, they’ve lost their minds. Feds will be watching their every move. It’s just a matter of time before they self destruct.
LE has waited too long to cleanup the mess. Corrupt behavior is out of control

In CX org anything is possible. For eg a M5 reports to M4. Maybe we will see soon a bunch of VPs reports to IC to keep the title.

Guys just move on to greener pastures. Right time to pivot to AI. No point staying with these VP id--ts who want org filled with bootlickers with zero coding or technical skills.

Here is my advice, from one who has been through this. DO NOT work for anyone who was a former VP at Oracle. You will regret it. They are not what they are cracked up to be.

Just because one gang of criminals comes in and cleans up another gang of criminals, does not make that gang the good guys. There are no good guys in this situation.

Cleanse yourself of Oracle management present AND past. You will be glad you did. AI is not what it seems to be!

No other company comes even close. The management is made up of zombie-like airheads lacking all logic and all empathy. If someone put a paper bag over their heads they couldn’t find their way out! Seriously, it’s that bad. They can’t figure out how to rate the people under them because they have no clue what they do and have no idea how anything is supposed to be done. Oracle is bizarro-world. I used to think that if I went up the management chain I would eventually find someone who had a clue, but that is not true. There is no one. Clowns managed by even bigger clowns, all of them afraid someone will notice what they are and see past their stupid titles. What a waste of time it was working at Oracle.

This is a gross misrepresentation of facts.

Either you are a VP yourself or naive to be manipulated by the words, not able to judge by actions

Guess what year end shut down is come. Please ensure all the developers are providing coverage so that these orgs can enjoy marshmallows and some quality time for all the hard work they do.

So true, been in support for many years now with little reward and false promises.

VPs here do not take the bashing personally. It is not your fault. Any 3rd grader will have hard time with the reality check. Keep filling up your orgs with bootlickers and kindgergartners to bully.

Interesting. A developer is actually doing all the work of all these other redundant orgs with VPs and they are being laid off. Looks like a good way to try to make these other orgs relevant. Only mo--ns will follow this strategy.

Time is ripe for some VP level consolidation and getting rid of redundant PSR, Release management, fake regression chasers, Ops orgs aka log retrievers, Process champions etc.

Another delusional VP. The reason you exist still is because even a 3rd grader can do what you do. Get a reality check. Liking random posts on linked in is not a skill.

They responds to emails even in mid night

Sending mails is not work but to create pressure on workers

review the code with engineers

If VPs are reviewing code means they do not trust anyone under them, especially the managers

This is a gross misrepresentation of facts. I dont know which org you belonged to , i know for a fact vp and any senior management works like crazy every effing day. They responds to emails even in mid night, review the code with engineers. They actually are in the call until the issue is resolved. I havnt got a chance to work SVPs. In oracle if you are getting fired , you probably should be. Improve your skills instead of blaming others.

Only job VPs have is to repost their boss post on linkedin. They race each other who can do that first. Their old exec bosses like this as no one else in this world give them any attention.

Proud to have so many distinguished VPs in our org. CX is in safe hands. They will ensure by layoffs the ratio of VPs to engineers to go as high as 1:1. The only engineer that needs to exist is the one that is currently doing the VPs work a.k.a technical architect.
