Yes sir. After trying other opportunities and nothing clicking, I have decided to move for the company. I hope it will be a good one for the family, as we will get a lot of social life, good housing and better opportunities than where I stay. I still got 20 years to retire. So let’s see how it goes. @kb many have relocated and been laid off shortly after. What’s your point? Others shouldn’t be warned of the truth and the dirty tactics?

Moving isn’t for everyone. If it’s not a match for your current family situation, that’s cool. Stop trying to discourage others for who the choice might be a good decision just because it doesn’t fit your narrative. Many have relocated and been successful.
Looking forward to the post in 6 months about moving on your own dime and being laid off anyway. The move letter is a layoff. Don’t be so naive. Countless others have told you exactly what happens when you move.
Don’t be surprised when you get laid off anyways. Up to you if being laid off in your current market is better than in Dallas. Best of luck, probably going to be one of the biggest mistakes you ever made.
I moved for the company and absolutely believe it was the right move for my family. But here is the catch - I’m willing to work hard. Moving made me more visible. And when new and interesting work came along, I was now top of mind. That had me working harder and getting even more noticed. If you are not willing to work hard, that gets noticed here, too. So, for what it’s worth, my experience is moving will generally reward talented and hard working people, less likely those who think moving alone will do the trick.
@bz Accepting a new position is a lot different than, move or get fired. I live in Texas. Austin to be exact. I was told to move or be fired. And while I may not have gonads, I do have intelligence and a spine. My spouse has a job with a company that has never had a layoff. My kids have a steady routine. My life is not dictated by work. Plain and simple. I lam not jealous. What exactly would I be jealous about? AT&T has been a terrible place to work. If anything, I wish it had happened sooner. I spent way too many years cleaning up for lazy simpletons who nod their heads while adding exactly zero value. If anything, I'm jealous of the people who saw through the exploitation and gave AT&T the boot many years ago.
But please, justify your bad decisions if it makes you feel better.

Incorrect.
There has been no relocation provided for most management that has decided to relocate to DAL over the last couple years.
Sure there is a policy that covers relocation on HR One Stop. But the company can still choose whether they will offer it or not. And for L2 at least, there has been none. Even though Stanley lied to the media a couple years back talking about “generous relocation packages” for management roles that were being centralized.
ATT definitely will provide relocation funding for management employees either when you've been recruited or you've been asked to relocate to a new city. Dont know about other titles and non management. It's on HR Onestop. You're on the hook for the money for 12-18 months so no quitting before then.
@bw Disagree! Employees routinely accept positions without relocation packages. Organizations often freeze expenses like travel and relocation packages at various times of the calendar year. Sometimes the position posted will indicate 'no relocation assistance available' or similar wording. If the position and/or the location offers potential for growth and advancement, that could be the incentive to accept the position without a relocation package. Everyone is different.
The people making the move are likely H1Bs who would rather move across country than across the world back home to Asia.
America has got a "policy" problem that's everyone is starting to realize across the most conservative-to-liberal mindsets. This episode that we are experiencing in 2026 is locking-in some values that will be held for a VERY LONG TIME and NOT FORGOTTEN.

Certainly you're entitled to do what is best for yourself and your family. There are people who choose to criticize others for doing what they, themselves, don't have the gonads to do. That's right! I said it!!!
Ignore the naysayers; they're just jealous. Don't look back, whether you stay with ATT or move to another company.

Don’t listen no negativity. Is the company great? Nope, but yet all the complainers won’t leave and they are here just posting their frustration. I moved to Dallas 18 months ago on my own dime and it has been a good experience. Most people complaining about Texas have never been here. You’ll be fine. Your family will be fine. Enjoy the ride.
@OP How terrible have you people become that you are willing to spend 10's of thousands of dollars simply because you can't find a job? It hurts my head. This guy, 20 years out from retirement. You should be in your prime, instead you are pulling a family for a low level job because you aren't educated or skilled enough to find anything else. Not even a lower paying gig? Man, you guys are in serious sh!t.

You are not top talent. Even if you are exceptionally smart, you are not valued. AT&T will offer relocation packages for people, though generally not for L2s, even you people who think, "AT&T can't replace me". Yes, they can. In fact, you will be replaced with someone worse than you. And, they'll probably pay them more! We reward stupidity so long as you don't show initiative and you agree with leadership and follow the rules - no matter how silly.
When you tell on your dime, you are following the rules. When you take a package, you are making the rules. Think, genius... If you are willing to move for nothing, at least move somewhere you like. If you have family in Ohio, look for jobs in Ohio. If you live in a tiny town with such a terrible market that you can't find a job, think for yourself. If you can't do that, what makes you think you have any career at AT&T?

If you are having to move on your own dime, the company is signaling to you that they don’t want you. If you were talent that they really wanted to keep, relocation would have been offered. Consider yourself warned.
