So I found out from a peer that H1B employees get automatic raises because they have to be at a certain salary. No one needs to ask or approve, they just get it whereas we wait and wait forever to get any raise. How is this fair?

All the people attacking the OP are those H1B workers who are afraid of their time in the US. Or maybe you are sitting outside the country with no chance of entering the US, just spreading hate wherever they can. This is a factual post so if you know nothing say nothing.

There is some truth to this. Companies are required to pay H1B visa holders a certain wage (at minimum) based on job classification and location. This is determined by US Department of Labor and Oracle has an outside law firm that monitors the situation / compliance. If an eligible employee is below that when they do an audit, then their wages will be automatically adjusted.
The process is a bit more complicated in practice. I am a former Oracle manager who had H1B employees so I did encounter this on a few occasions.
The basic purpose of this part of the law is to make sure companies cannot bring on foreign employees and pay them under prevailing wages. All the stuff about how H1B employees are less expensive is actually — at least if the company is following the law — bull sh-t. Offshoring is another separate issue.

The fact that there are thousands of qualified US citizens currently looking for employment should be enough of a reason to ban all H1Bs, to argue otherwise would be against the interests of American workers.
