Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

6000 mid atlantic union jobs offered package/surpluss

Verizon surpluses union positions, out of 6k offered package how many will be backfilled my guess is 10 percent 600. Thoughts ? Is the 6k number accurate. We've seen facebook posts that NY had 1500, PA 1200, NJ 800 where is the other cuts? Is it more like 3k jobs?
Union getting destroyed as well?

No1 in our garage taking it. Healthcare is too expensive, unless you're 62 or older there's really no point, no one is hiring, and everyone here basically is between 45-59 Y.O. offer this same thing again in Summer 2030 and Verizon will completely clean house, leaving basically zero people to strike in September 2030.

@hf Three people in my group who had said they were taking an offer if one came are already back peddling. I don't blame them. This offer is only good if you're thisclose to Medicare age.

@hf none...where else they'd find a high paying job with excellent benefits and do nothing?

No backfill. Why would they pay someone to leave then hire someone to replace them. C-mon man.

@c5 Former co workers retired in 2012 and were paying 0 for medical. Imagine what they are going through now.

@bt It has always happened before. They can also force adjust workforce within their voting districts

Medical costs are crazy and getting worse every year. If you're not very close to Medicare age I'd take the four more years of employment, guaranteed as per the contract extension.

@bv its $9,000 if you and your family don't go to the doctor or have a prescription the entire year .

It could be as much as $15k if you and your family have some issues during the year

Realistically its somewhere in between and is destined to go up even more every year

@bm $12,000 seems a little high, I think it is around $9,000. But there are other options. VZ guys just aint used to paying. Thank your executive board for sc--wing you with the medical

Surpluses positions aren’t backfilled, hence the definition of surplus. They will shrink the union as much as they can then in 2030 it’ll be too weak to negotiate and we’ll have a forever strike.

@OP Nope, Union not getting destroyed. It’s voluntary. New hires are going to backfill positions that are vacated. New hires or anyone hired after 2003 have no pension or layoff protection. A lot has to happen before they can be laid off though. Including getting rid of contractors.

The health insurance is outrageous for a family of 4 is 12k yearly, especially pre-Medicare age.

There is zero chance any total number can be accurate. Not all states were given a specific number. Some names 1 per location with the thought that they will oversubscribe.

@OP Lotta deadweight in this company. It is amazing how many people sit around and do nothing at this place.
