Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

Why Concerns Never Make It to HR

I’d like to hear from employees who have raised concerns internally and felt the process didn’t work. If you’re comfortable sharing your experience, please do. No names or confidential information. I’m interested in understanding whether there are common patterns here.

HR is there to protect the company from staff. They aren't there for you.

I have brought discrimination and s-xual harassment charges to HR. Never went anywhere because HR and legal almost never deal with this stuff. That's because they are totally risk averse and lazy. My former HR lady was stoned at work all the time. It's the same reason almost nobody gets fired from Comcast for doing poor work, no work or just being generally toxic. Just accept you are on your own.

@f2 this my experience. we also had a VP who would scour the eNPS scores to try and figure out who wrote them. Eventually, he hit the negatives and HR did step in (though he had also openly crossed HR and his own SVP so that didn’t help him either). Someone told me the real reason for eNPS, YourVoice, etc., is to catch any possible unionization. Comcast right now has power and money to cover their tracks with investigative authorities but the pendulum always swings and they’re losing power (subscribers) fast. Pride before dishonor. I don’t believe you can treat people awful for so long and it never comes back even if it takes decades or years to happen.

@a4 right! Look around- sad to say but hr concerns are nearly the least of employees concerns at this point. Transformation, layoffs, AI….

HR at Comcast is awful and only there to protect senior leadership from accountability. This isn’t abnormal, however the senior leadership we currently have has pushed out the competent people and promoted those good at climbing the corporate ladder for the wrong reasons.

Comcast Listens isn’t private and I know of 4 instances off the top of my head where multiple (if not all) direct reports called in with issues. Absolutely nothing was done and certain folks felt they were targeted afterwards. eNPS is a waste of time in most departments. I used to be a champion and know for a fact that our VP (who was widely disliked, terrible people skills, and severely unqualified for the role) would sift through each negative comment to figure out who wrote it. Everything was always the worker bee’s fault, never leadership. It got to the point where people who will out the survey but not provide any feedback.

I have personally gone to HR with issues and severely regretted it. I overheard my manager in the bathroom discussing details I was assured would remain confidential. Unsurprisingly, I was let go in the next layoff round despite my performance being objectively better than my peers and being in the middle of an important launch.

Comcast Business SMB/AE sales reps steal from each other, have the worst customer facing sales practices and system is built so new people want to leave after 6 months…….HR looks the other way

I know of a Comcast Listens complaint involving mistreatment by a senior leader. The reported behavior was the same type of behavior our integrity training modules tell us Comcast has no tolerance for. The concerns were ultimately substantiated and elevated for next steps.

Yet from what employees can see, nothing changed. The leader is still here, and the same concerns about how people are treated continue.

So what are employees supposed to take away from the integrity training? If behavior the company says it does not tolerate is reported, substantiated, and elevated, but the behavior continues, what confidence are employees supposed to have in the process?

Why would anyone raise concerns to HR? HR is on the company’s side, not yours. Anything you tell them will 100% NOT remain private. If you bring up a concern with you’re boss, they immediately bring it to your boss. They’re there to stop the company from getting sued, and nothing else.

Nothing is anonymous. Not even the “Anonymous” Comcast Listens outlet.
