Soooo all of the noise around AI to partner with an AI company instead of using our own agents?

Am I reading this correct? Am I just stupid? We spent however much money developing Aviator so we can provide agentic AI to companies because we're like an AI company (allegedly) right?? So why are we now partnering with an AI company to bring secure data to governments and all of the sudden bringing only data to the table?? Wasn't the whole point being building AI agents that conform to whatever standards is needed so governments can use them? Now we're just the data source for the AI agent that can be changed at will.

Also, ok sure we have products that this makes sense for. But what about the rest of the products? What about Microfocus products? What data can we provide from for ex. ITOM to feed into agentic AI? A bunch of our products dont even fit the bill here. So where do they fit in the AI data future?

Cohere is not building their own AI model. It's just like using a proxy (AI router) to query LLM model from OpenAI and Claude, similar like OpenRouter.

btw, Aiator is a joke. People who built it are not AI guys.. They really don't know how to use AI.

We partner with Cohere because they provide SOTA models that do not rely on USA-based companies. Canada is one of only four countries that develops frontier models.

If you're a customer outside of the USA these days you think more than twice what an US-administration can do to you - and you might want to pay a little more for hedging your bets.

Remember when Mark wanted to take on IBM's Watson? Everything OT does with "intelligence" is a hype train, pipe dream, scam.

@OP There can be only one reason for the new AI partnership: OT's AI is a complete failure.

Whoever built the Aviators are not AI engineers... They don't really understand how LLM works. For who knows how to build with AI are ignored by the OT. Why? Because people at the engineering position don't want those guys take over.

@c4 yeah, it's probably just a tailored .md file. With maybe some skills? Either way, nobody who knows anything about AI will be paying for it.

Do you actually think Aviator is worth anything? As others have mentioned, aviator is often just a direct call to Gemini. It just saves users the one step of ctrl-c + ctrl-v over to Gemini and back.

Aviator is just the most recent of many OT abortions.

@a5 and honestly, it has a greater chance of actually being useful, rather than being simply marketing hype.

In one of the products I support, a call to aviator simply passes the request to gemini. I'm sure it's not the only one.

Think of it this way; if you had any AI dev skills whatsoever, why in the name of all that is holy would you be working for OpenText?

That's the answer to our new partnership. We either can't do it, or don't want to pay to hire the people that can make it happen. Easier to outsource.
