Five meetings in one day and I still have actual work that needs to get done. And once they start, everyone looks bored, including the people who scheduled them. We've lost the plot, folks.

@mx classic case of an unqualified manager. Those are the ones who go crazy with meetings. Deliver the minimum. Let them suffer. You helping is only enabling bad judgement and behavior so don’t. Risk is you may go down with them but I guarantee they are already throwing you u see the bus so don’t be the fool.
OP - block off work time in your calendar and make it private / busy time every day. Decline nonsense meetings and ask to have it recorded or someone grab good copilot notes. It’s the only way to get work done now, I swear.
My manager would schedule a meeting to discuss the project status meeting we were going to have later that week. Then he’s schedule another meeting to review our status deck that we would send out after the status meeting. Then we had a team meeting every week, a 1-1, and daily standup. So 10 meetings a week about 6 hours per week just with my manager on every project. On average 2 hours per day with this guy. Plus all the other project meetings I had I could never find time to do the actual work. Glad I’m no longer there. FU AT!
@mh it's really cute that your managers think that just because you block the time on your calendar that some jagoff won't try to schedule you for a call anyway.
I play far too much calendar Jenga because of conflicts with meetings daily.
I agree. Management in my department basically told us that if we are showing as available during a certain time in our Outlook calendar, we have to accept whatever meeting invitations we get. They suggested blocking off time in Outlook if we don't want meetings scheduled during a certain time. Ummm, NO! I'm not going to do that if I just have regular work to get done. If I have a medical appointment or vacation time, I'll put that on my calendar.
@dt exactly this. Just because someone invites you to a meeting does not mean you have to attend. Like, manage your calendar and determine what's beneficial and what's not.
Only five in a day? Gosh, there's days my whole day is booked with meetings, and I'm just a PM! I've been asking for years when I'm supposed to actually do my job.
Be the change - decline the meeting of you he'll you provide no value. Exit the meeting you joined and realize you have no reason to be there.
Meetings are necessary, but they are also a cancer. You manage your time, not anyone else.
Meetings are mostly setup by those who are incapable of achieving anything by themselves and are needy for everything.
Plot? You think an Andy or a Gunjan would be at the helm if we had a fu--ing plot? We are a second class bank who copies whatever the big boys do. The multi decade tenured a$$holes at the bank made sure that is our only plot.
My team has soooooo many meetings now. Even the usual kiss as--s are quiet at the end when we are asked if anyone would like to add anything. It's tiring and when you make meetings a this frequently they no longer feel important.
Okay, so it's not just me. This is not sustainable.
We never had the plot.
The more time wasted on bureaucratic bullsh-t and pointless meetings, the happier I am. Only bootlickers get concerned about undone work.
Let's never change!
