You can have a strong record here and still find yourself on the wrong side of management. It seems far more important to stay in someone's good graces than to actually do good work.

If you brown nose your manager you will be ok even if you're lazy.as long as you kiss the ring.
Knowing the right people pays dividends. Hard work only gets you more work and a potential layoff.
