Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Our insurance coverage

Anyone else find it despicable they are cutting our healthcare coverage claiming to be working to lower the cost of healthcare? We don’t have the best as it is, and this is an insurance company!

Bottom line: This company is a train wreck! It's been on a downward path ever since they hired Gail B. She has continued to destroy this for the employees and members, just like she did at United Healthcare. This company is full of middle and senior management who don't have a clue and only care about their pockets. They have and will continue to sc--w employees every chance they get. If you're not already thinking about it, GET OUT as soon as you can!!

Y'all better look out, because it appears they plan to extend the absolutely terrible "high performance network" plan in 2027.

Let me be the first to warn you NOT to sign up for this, if so, unless you want to spend half your work days vetting the provider directory, finally finding a single low-rated doctor 30+ miles from home who accepts it, only to get your claim ultimately denied because hey, actually, out of network.

National Blue HPN certainly redefines the concept of "narrow network."

@ja I just canceled a couple doctors appointments because of concerns of cost. My blood pressure is up so I was worried my provider might push for me to get out on blood pressure medicine. And I know once you are on those, may not ever be able to get off. And those pills can be expensive. I am going to try an exercise more and lose some weight.

I am a kind of bitter about where health insurance and the entire healthcare system has brought us today.

Yes, we have made unbelievable advancements in healthcare technology that can be and had been used to save many lives. But what good is it if you can’t afford it. I think within say maybe the last 25 years we have broken our healthcare system. I put a large part of the blame on health insurance greed but there are other guilty players in the broken system as well.

I think I am going to take a break from this site today because I feel like nobody is listening nor is trying to help.

@a2 That is what Elevance wants you to. They want you to stop going to the doctor so they can make money off your premiums. Then if you do need medical treatment they will find a way not to cover it.

@fp The way things are heading, some day if you accidentally cut end of your finger off while chopping celery, your health insurance will only buy you a five minute telemedicine call with your provider, who will simply tell you to wrap it and take some aspirin.

@da Dude, I'm already shopping on the marketplace. At this point, I have to care about cost less than access, because access in 2026 has already been terrible, and it seems like it's going to be even worse next year.

@dh The fact that they're taking pains to socialize the changes two months prior to open enrollment, in addition to the language they're using, makes it clear.

I've been here for a long time; there have never been all-hands meetings and emails from HR about the future benefits two months in advance.

It's pretty obvious this is going to be a net-negative for most of us.

We haven’t seen the options so how do you know it was cut?

@OP This has been happening for a long time. Before I was (mercifully) RIF'd years ago, I was very seriously considering obtaining health care coverage on the open market, and not through this shi+hole. I got the axe before I could execute on that plan, but I was about to do it.

I pay so much in premiums, then when I do see a doctor the amount I still have to pay a ton out of pocket. I don’t even go to the doctor anymore because I this. I basically keep insurance in case I’m hospitalized and for my daughter to keep her covered until she’s done with college.
