@19f ageism absolutely exists, unfortunately, but sorry, this does not make sense if you were indeed laid-off or your role was eliminated.

@19f Glad you were able to get the unemployment that you were entitled. You are right, they don’t care about the employees. I wish they would RIF me since I am FRA now. I’m not that lucky. I don’t do overtime at all. The building could be burning down and I log off when it’s my time. I will be gone within the next 6 months on my own terms.
Yes it was ageism! I had just turned 50 and was just under 25 years at HCSC and middle management. They appealed unemployment so all I got was the severance. Then in early 2026, I found out that the unemployment was given to me as well after the state unemployment found HCSC guilty of ageism. Very sad!
Remember companies don't care about the staff anymore. They care only about profits, morale and appreciation are unheard of.
@16h That seems about right. Think the only exception to the 5 years was the massive layoff in February 2015 in IT followed by the VSP in 2016. I stopped worrying about being let go years ago since it was out of my control. Since I’m already full retirement age, it looks like I’ll get to leave on my terms.
I believe in the BCBS brand. The SLT will change in time.
We will not have any more layoffs. Hcsc has a 5 year cycle around workforce planning and rebalancing.
@15h it was not solely based on age. It was that plus someone with many years of experience here. They should have all had decent pensions, 401(k) and other savings at that point. Still su-ks but that length of service was part of the formula
@w7 Who thought this was a smart idea? Did legal approve?
@w7 Ageism is not cool. Getting rid of knowledgeable people will just bite us in the butt (clowns).
All the layoffs in the comms department last September were over 50 years old. Either have brutal leadership or d-mb leadership but not both!
They sh----n some incompetent VPs by December. That my bet!
