I was so happy when I joined Oracle five years ago, thinking I've found my long term career. Today was a brutal reminder how untrue that was and how temporary that security really was. I'm now jobless and disillusioned - not a good combination.

If you want a career high tech is no longer the place. If you have been there a while you are probably too expensive. Cost is the only metric they look at. Knowledge and experience aren't valued. Plan on moving between jobs every 3-5 years for to get pay increases and promotions and avoid layoffs. You will always be looking for your next job. The world has changed and will continue to change.
This too shall pass and orcl would have faded from your memory in few years. Someday you will thank orcl for this day
I'm sorry you were let go, OP. I worked for Oracle decades ago and it has been consistently laying people off for 30 years. In the US, citizens are let go in favor or temporary visa holders.
It will take you a while to find a new job, but at least the market is slightly better than last year. Be sure and look at contracting jobs as you transition to your new role.
