I’m currently on approved medical leave and still an employee, but my employment is ending in October 2026.
Since Wells Fargo pays the 401(k) match as a lump sum at year-end and usually requires you to be employed on December 15:
Will an October termination forfeit my entire 2026 match?
Are there exceptions to the Dec 15 rule for medical leave or involuntary termination/severance?
Has anyone in a similar situation received a prorated payout or offset?
Thanks for any insights!

@p9 I wonder if this would be the case for those that voluntarily leave but also contributed. I’ll report back EOY for everyone’s benefit
Displaced June 2025. 60 day non-working notice ended August 2025, then my 10 month severance period started. On 12/31/2025 I was awarded my 401k match. Wasn’t expecting it at all. One thing to note you must have an active WF Empower account. I moved out all of my 401k to an IRA. But I had an active 401k loan so the Empower account has to stay open until it’s paid off. If not for that loan I would have closed my Empower account and not received the 401k match.
You get NOTHING, good day sir!!!
I guess the policy must have changed. I was displaced in early 2024 and got severance through early 2025. For my 401K contributions made until my employment ended I still got a matching contribution at year end.
You have to be actively employed (including leave) or in your 60-day nonworking notice period as of 12/15 to get the match.
Anyone who gets a layoff 60-day notice on or after 10/16 will get the 401k match.
