Not true. I'm critical to the business. How do you explain putting in 8 hours, no real work, and still employed?

The hard truth to swallow, none of us are as critical as we think we are. That goes from the bottom to the very top. These folks leaving might cause some heartburn to their peers for a few weeks at most, but the machine will keep on going. Too many people here (myself included used to think this) that what I did keep this place running. It doesn’t. This is a job, it’s great you’ve been able to make it 25+ years, but at the end of the day this is a job. Nothing more. Maybe it used to be a career, but that hasn’t been true for over 10 years now as it has been a revolving door for most people coming in. I know back in the day it was different, but those days are gone and most people live in that past. When you leave or I leave, most people won’t remember us in 6 months. Doesn’t matter if you do 5 years or 50 years.
