Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

“As of the end of May, the company had about 49,000 US workers while about 92,000 were employed internationally”

You can see where this is headed. US employees will be obsolete

Nah it won't. Last time Oracle tried to hire less Americans and more Asians they got sued by the US government. https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/ofccp/ofccp20170118-0

I just wonder how long it will take for the SLT/C-suite to realize they are bloated, overpaid US citizens that also need to be replaced with 10 Indians.

Think they will ever have that realization?

@ap You miss the point. Doesn't matter where services are built for US Gov....just that US-side devs (sometimes in SKIFs) are doing the installs/ops. So develop overseas, do the last mile work with a small team here (or in UK). That model has been in place for quite some time already....though it's clunky because gov operators are always heavily backlogged.

That conclusion does not follow from the employee figures alone. Oracle’s substantial U.S. government and regulated-industry customer base requires a strong domestic workforce with specialized expertise, compliance knowledge, and customer support. International growth is not evidence that U.S. employees are becoming obsolete.

Speculation that frames workforce data as inevitable job loss only creates unnecessary anxiety. A more useful discussion would focus on the business context and actual evidence rather than assuming the worst.

It is an international company with its headquarters in the US. It makes sense to have a global team of employees. US employees also cost too much. The overall head count is dropping so the numbers at the end of next May will be substantially lower but probably similar proportions.
