Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

No more NRE means more PIPs for everyone

Supervisor here. There was an unspoken agreement between employees and supervisors that when people were NRE we would put them in NSI to protect the team as a whole. Most employees were ok with this. Now that NRE is gone if we put the NRE engineers in NSI they will lose their retiree benefits so we are forced to put younger people in NSI. Supervisors trying to figure out what to do as they keep taking away the few levers we had to make their sh---y assessment system work. Do the math. If two NSIs in 5 years means automatic firing there is no way to protect everyone. If you have a group of five people and everyone takes a turn being NSI, after year five you have to start firing people. This is what they want.

@OP And this is a bad thing? Hoping you go too as a supervisor. Bye, bye.

@bc

wrong. make them pay to make you go. in the meantime do the minimum and network and polish the resume.

there’s no need to respond to slimey greedy behavior with anything but the same thing back.

@aw Yeah, last time I tried to pay my mortgage with recognition points, they didn’t accept it.

@aw meanwhile, we don't give an eff about recognitions, awards, kumba-yah BS. We want job security, real career paths, and more money. Recognitions don't feed our kids.

Just do a voluntary layoff and be done with it.

Behind closed doors... managers are trying to brainstorm what could bring up morale without spending any money (i.e. recognitions, transparency, awards, etc.) meanwhile this is macro-economic problem, but XOM amplified this through ineffective leadership.

Hopefully you have more than 5 people in your ranking group.

Yes everyone has to take a turn or you will have to eliminate good employees.

It’s a terrible system that is not productive at all. So much time is wasted on self assessments and worrying about whether it’s your time in the bucket.

XOM is bleeding experience and talent and they think they can make it up with foreign workers. It’s a dumpster fire.

@OP Of all the things never happened, this never happened the most.

This is effectively admitting to age discrimination.

These “I was HR/supervisor” posts where someone claims to have hidden knowledge of a widespread conspiracy to get rid of everyone over 50 are clearly BS and a waste of bandwidth.

People seem to not realize how bad things are about to get. The elimination of NRE will impact everyone not just the NRE folks. The 2 pips in 5 years change is going to massively increase the number of people forced out each year going forward.
