Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

How do these layoffs actually work — whole teams cut or random people?

Curious if anyone here has been through a round of layoffs and can share how it actually played out. When companies say it's "cost cutting" or "moving jobs offshore" — is it usually the entire team/department that goes, or do they pick people out individually?

Also wondering if performance ratings really matter here, or if it's more about tenure, pay level, and role redundancy. Trying to get a realistic picture rather than just guessing.

An investigation into Citi’s HR and hiring practices should be conducted to address transparency and compliance issues. Key areas of concern include the rapid cycle of posting and closing new roles amidst ongoing layoffs, alongside allegations of nepotism and demographic favoritism within specific hiring teams.

Additionally, the execution of the recent corporate restructuring potentially influenced by external consultancies like BCG should be reviewed to ensure full alignment with anti-discrimination policies regarding race, caste, and gender.

Hello, Citi HR ! Nice try though. LOL!

Citi, working and employers in general are NOT a meritocracy!

Politics, who likes you, who doesn't, who's threatened by you or your skills/knowledge also factor into who gets Laidoff.

I've witnessed too many times to count the number of highly Rated 1s/2s employees get Laidoff, but yet their coworkers who are useless and incompetent And know which AS$es to Svck keep their jobs.

They're members of the right cabals or cliques. There are fiefdoms in Citi.

Citi is NOT and NEVER will be a meritocracy.

It can be whole teams or just a % of the team. I’ve made it through two rounds this year and the ones that got laid off were who I would expect based on performance. In my analysis of those impacted in my group site, tenure, and telecommuter status were not a factor. Perform well and have a good reputation and good standing with your boss, and you’re less likely to be impacted. Make yourself valuable. Raise your hand for projects. Do your work.

@OP

You're obviously a Headhunter-Employment Agency, a Troll or Never worked in Corporate America or anywhere else.

No one who's worked in a corporate setting needs to ask the questions you asked.

Or at best you're newly out of University and this is only your first or second job.

Been thru 3 rds of layoffs and survived so far don't know about Sept 16 my luck might finally be out, there's 2 types it can be a whole team or a certain percentage determined by upper management of the team. When it's not the whole team it's based on 2 metrics performance and seniority due to the severance package it's cheaper to layoff newer employees. If you have lowest years at Citi on your team your first up if it's not a full team layoff, in my teams last round the number one performer was laid off while other stayed because he has been here 2 yrs and they have for 15+ yrs. Your direct manager won't have any say on layoffs but it's usually the C13/C14 and above who directly choose.

High performer, the only one on my team cut. I was remote. The site I worked at closed down years ago but it made RTO impossible and so I was a target.

from what I observed everywhere, the ones easily replaceable will be laid-off, those who do work that easily can be picked up by others. I would assume performance matters too, although I have never met people with bad performance. SMEs will stay, because it takes years for replacement in India to get to the level of independence when they are able to act without precise direction of what to do and how to do. Once they achieve this level , they move on and we have to train new people . Besides, in my world we need someone onshore to respond to queries from 12 PM to 2 AM EST. We were able to find some exceptional employees in India but they are rarity. I am talking about C13 level, our groups rarely employ lower level.
