Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Where your name is just a compensation number for IBM executives to strike off

After all this -> https://lnkd.in/p/g_Ra3Znm IBM management still laid her off (my guess is manager had a target number and he had to save his a-s). My problem is with this narrative of large tech companies (IBM in particular for years now) even with quarter on quarter profits doing selective layoffs to protect their executives and their bonuses (not a real layoff in the sense) and we go on linked-in and praise them and normalize it , where does this really end (cause everybody now start doing the same since they know nobody can go bad mouth them in public) because of their sheer size and need to be visible and employed through linked-in.

@d6 I hope the woman in the article pursues legal action. It sounds like she has a stellar year last year and a strong case

As someone who grew up in the 1980s, I remember when layoffs were viewed as a serious last ditch attempt to save a company from bankruptcy when there were no other options. It usually resulted in a company's stock and credit ratings plummeting as well. Nowadays it's accepted as standard practice to manage quarterly earnings.

Here to agree that it has been normalized. And as a consequence the misuse and we-ponization of PIPs has also been normalized. PIP was never intended to be used in the manner that it is today. It is fraud and highly unethical but normalized at IBM
