Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

My name is in the hat.

I'm a management employee and my boss asked me if I wanted to consider the layoff package. He purposely provided no detail on what the package might look like for someone with 22 years. Anyone have a real idea what the severance packages have looked like recently? Also, are we eligible for unemployment once the severance timeline has passed? Thank you in advance.

“ Does anyone know of the surplus package will change in 2027?”

There is no “package”.

If you are talking about “severance” , it’s unlikely it will be changed but that rumor goes around here all the time.

It’s already below industry standard.

ask your manager.

The state I live in asked a very specific question about severance - had I received one or would I within some short period like 30 days. Since I had deferred it to the following year for tax and IRMAA reasons I could honestly answer 'no' to that question.

@bf This is why his boss asked him if he would consider the package. I can't imagine how this individual managed their current "senior level" work load if they have to come here to ask a question like this.

@ec 25 years in sales means, you've been a thoughtful human being for about 23.75 of those years, and the rest a complete and utter dou--ebag using everyone or any means to get what you want. Sc-mbag.

If you had a clue you would read the Severance policy on HR OneStop rather than asking a bunch of mo--ns on the Internet.

OP, as someone who has spent more than 25 years in sales, my experience has been that, at least in many of our sales organizations, raising this question can put a target on your back.

Once you "throw your hat in the ring," many managers and leaders may begin to view it as a sign that you've lost a step or that your focus has shifted elsewhere. From that point forward, the emphasis can subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, move toward managing you out or preparing for your eventual departure.

I've seen reps reassigned to different modules or roles. I've also seen performance issues receive heightened scrutiny, where a single missed month can accelerate a PIP process that might not have been initiated otherwise. In some cases, high-value accounts or large pending opportunities are reassigned, especially if leadership is aware of an upcoming reorganization.

It's important to remember that, like all of us, managers and leadership teams often act in their own self-interest. While they may genuinely wish you well and support you on a personal level, that goodwill does not always extend beyond the limits of their own job security and professional self-preservation. That doesn't mean every manager or operates this way, but I've seen it happen often enough here to approach these situations with a healthy degree of realism and caution.

@c1 - it’s really a win win and a decent thing to do. That’s why I’m surprised that The Stank doesn’t try harder to stop it.

@as It actually happens a lot because managers don't want to lose more people than they have to. So, they find out who was planning on leaving anyway, put them on the hit list, everone is happy. HR may not know about, but I am sure they know it happens.

@as - ok, and your point?

What the heck do I care? I got 6 months severance and someone who wanted to stay was able to say (at least for a while).

“ He purposely provided no detail on what the package might look like for someone with 22 years.“

WTF are you taking about?

There is no “package”. And there is no mystery.

You’ll get 6 months salary under the current Management Severance Plan. It’s on HR One Stop.

Mystery solved.

Also, that’s basically it. And a discount on expensive wireless service that you can beat almost everywhere else.

@ar If the exact thing happened to you, then your manager went against HR rules.

It’s 2 weeks per year of service up to 6 months max. Yes there are surpluses happing in the next week or two, off payroll first week of October. You’ll also get a prorated bonus in March. But that’s it. If you’re ready to retire, honestly, probably the best deal you’re going to get.

Up to 6 months severance. One week for every year up to 6 months. Healthcare subsidy for 6 months as well… but they don’t advertise that part very well.

I call BS.. That is NOT the H.R. Modus Oporandi . They dont tell people for legal reasons, they get a real kick out of blind siding people. I dont care who you are. This company has ZERO morals, that is their culture.

22 years and you don’t know and can’t find in HROneStop. Really? 6 months pay + 6 months subsidized health care. Most likely YES for unemployment- depends on state.
