someone was supposed to come in to a meeting and messaged last minute that they got fired. rumors are flying that they weren't the only one

@k0 f5's path has been this way sibe fld became ceo in 2017 and the first rif shortly aftetwards
@gt responses can also be filtered by years of experience and other criteria that can identify someone?
@k0 Yeah, I've heard too. Some teams were untouched by layoffs. Wonder if they're planning a second wave of cuts after the next performance reviews wrap up to trim the payroll without having to pay severance.
@k0 FLD is numbers driven not quality.
@OP I understand this latest layoff is “performance” driven. This is what Google AI states about forced bottom 5% layoffs:
“No, "bottom 5%" layoffs—often called forced ranking or "rank and yank"—generally do not work over the long term because they destroy trust, hurt morale, and force companies to fire competent workers”.
I’ve seen this in other companies and do hope F5 is not heading down this path.
@a2 Just like April 2023.
@e4 i sure hope so, they are worthless
@OP Just a few weeks ago, these executives—they were telling everybody, "Everything is fantastic. We've got total alignment. The markets are changing, but we're perfectly positioned." You heard it. They couldn't stop talking about it. PowerPoints everywhere. Buzzwords everywhere. "Dynamic markets." "Strategic positioning." Nobody even knew what they were saying, but they said it with tremendous confidence.
And now? Layoffs. Big layoffs. Suddenly it's "realigning." That's the new word. Whenever they make a mess, it's always "realigning." They never say, "We got it wrong." They never say, "Maybe those presentations weren't so brilliant." No, no. It's "realigning."
Amazing how fast "everything is going according to plan" becomes "we have to eliminate jobs." Incredible. The only thing more dynamic than the market is how fast the corporate story changes.
@b9 That was the real plan behind changing bonus payments from quarterly to yearly. Work hard all year, and by the end of Q4 your laptop will be wiped out. Bo-m! "Strategic realignment" implemented "ridiculously easily"!
@ay Its Managers Choice to keep his not favourite member in the low rank , so if he likes someone and he is not doing also fine. Its politics played for some hardworking members as well in layoff. sorry for them.
@eq Same thing here. To be clear I trust the manager who did this, but not his manager's manager... "There's only 3 people who might have said this, all fit the profile of __. You are one of them."
"I don't recall writing that or what I even wrote"
@ep after having been tracked down after answering an anomymous survey I stopped. You will be hunted down
@dp That's what strategic "resource" realignment looks like. Make no mistake. All humans are just rows in a spreadsheet, cogs in a big, corpo-greedy machine. Sick of seeing those goons wondering why "survey results" go down.
@e4 yes, i got some colleagues that were affected
@bw was India hit at all?
@dp sigh
I got laid off after 8 years. No prior notice or anything. All of a sudden the laptop was locked out and then a call from no caller ID.
@OP how were employees notified this time around? individual email? group email? company email? manager shows up at your cube? If by email, what was the wording this time around?
@c1 f5 f5 is very toxic
It was extra icky because they sent the rank and file some raft of BS eumpemiams "tough choices ... bla bla bla ... strategic realignment ... bla bla bla" but told people above some rank that they were weeding out low performers.
As usual the performance metric of the moment seems to be chosen in order to ensure they're cutting older engineers who have not shown interest in becoming managers. It's glaringly conspicuous how keen they are to replace over-40s with 20-somethings and I suspect it's as much because the 20-somethings don't remember a time when craftsmanship and expertise were valued at least as much as just going faster and thus rarely push back.
That said, this is an industry-wide toxic bloom and, compared to many companies, I gather F5 is still less toxic (though they're still a long way from the collaborative engineering led culture they had twenty or even ten years ago).
@OP so was the US hit first and India about now as it is about 840AM there now.
That is what will happen when you hand over most of the company to id--tic Telugu execs.
It was one year of bonus. Not small.
@b8 Generous ? bonus was just around corner
@OP It was so kind and generous of the execs of F5 to wait until after Labor Day so that those affected would at least get a paid day off.
One of my coworkers worked at F5 for 8 years and received 16 weeks of severance.
A few from XC and bigIP AFAIK
any idea on severance weeks ?
@av rif, pip, layoff . now new word - strategic realignment
@OP remember it is not a layoff - it is a strategic realignment
Both India and US? Any specific segment or product affected? Trying to read the tea leaves…
@a8 17 years for me. Its all about revenue sc--w the customer and quality
across US?
Which teams were primarily impacted? Is it all across?
one of my colleague who is very hard working got laid off. feel sorry for him. He doesnt deserve this.
Mass layoffs in PE across the globe. I have been with F5 over 6 years and just got layed off.
Yep, layoffs happening on mass calls
