@ms So, PTO obviously stands for Phosphorus, titanium, and oxygen, which when combined they form specialized compounds like titanium phosphates and phosphorus-doped titanium dioxide (TiO₂) used in energy storage and catalysis, which can be used to Rechargeable Batteries, as Gas Sensors to help detect oxygen and other gases effectively at lower operating temperatures, and lastly to be used as a Photocatalysis to help split water molecules or break down pollutants under visible light.

To pause PTO, simply means dope the titanium dioxide with phosphorus, which introduces oxygen vacancies and ultimately places phosphorus atoms into the lattice to form stable P–O bonds.

PTO stands for Paid Time Off. And in this instance I assume the company is asking some employees to pause taking paid time off until a certain time period, perhaps, for whatever reason.
