Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

Hiring freeze?

So now we have a hiring freeze again as well as possible layoffs? Another push to come back 4 days a week (yeah it’s been policy for a while but now being tracked like elementary school students)? How can we possibly expect to retain talent and become a better company when morale is at an all time low?

@1r6 I too am curious. Waiting to see those pics from events such as CommTech Jeopardy to see all those VPs, Directors, Managers, Supervisors partake in the lavish hotel rooms, food and prizes while the rest of us get cut. Isn't there also some expensive leadership program called "Pie in the Sky" or some cr@_p. They should rename it Pie In The Face. I'd take it. I'm starving.

@15g you clearly have no idea. As someone who was actively interviewing to hire, there is in fact a freeze

@15g there definitely is for all positions that were actually needed and in the process of being added, unfortunately. People are currently working themselves to the bone with some loads meant for at least 4-5 others. Curious if the luxurious, yet collaborative team building and such outings, travel, trips, dinners are also being slashed.

There is no hiring freeze. Stop being a troll.

The whole RTO mandate has been performative and a farce, and does nothing to address the underlying weakness in the business. To those who argue for the policy, keep in mind that you are just a number on the balance sheet like I was, nothing more and nothing less. When you are let go “due to competition in the market”, you will receive the same severance regardless of how many days a week you have spent in the office. It is nothing personal.

@vb ah, it still lives, and Comcast will continue to fail while blindly wondering why. As stated, please, get out. Should you land in a good environment or even a mildly toxic, it will shock you just how legally badly Comcast treated you.

@s3 cronyism is everywhere and the latest example is playing out after a DevX VP hired his longtime female “friend” of 16+ years to be his Chief of Staff. They’re both openly talking about how long they’ve known each other and how close they are, right in front of HR and the entire org, yet nothing seems to happen. Whatever the exact nature of that relationship, the optics are terrible, and you can imagine the morale problem it creates when employees see this kind of favoritism playing out in plain sight.

I have to agree with cc on that for at least the 4-day week topic. While there are many of you who indeed work hard on your own volition, Comcast is a big company and there are groups and departments of people who stay home napping, golfing, or doing yoga while collecting undeserved checks. I recall there were even workers who would sabotage external relationships in order to avoid those relationships from asking anything of them. It would be a fireable offense at most companies to purposely disrespect powerful external relationships, but these workers know Comcast leadership will believe the good they’re fed so long as they remain their pets, no one in Comcast leadership is looking, and no one externally will report them, so they sabotage to prevent external partners from expecting anything from them as they continue sitting at home in their PJs.

But the reason for those folks even having a job is indeed Comcast leadership. They allow so many toxins to stay so long as their a-s remains kissed. And now there’s low morale, talent is gone or is leaving, and there’re mass layoffs every 2 weeks - all because of entitled leaders who refuse to believe reality beyond want they want it to be. But reality is that awarding kiss as--s and cronyism for their own leadership self esteem is punitive to the company and the pied piper is now here at the stock market. Yet, these leaders continue to fight their last breath to make their idealism a reality bc they can’t stand anything outside of their entitled world. If reality doesn’t agree to what they want, then they will MAKE reality agree while the “us” who actually live in reality know and see the downward spiral from that thinking. Insert another bro leader

The outcome of absent leadership or cronyism over talent is exactly this. Now everyone is mad: The lazy b-ms for now being forced to come in and the hard workers not realizing the lazy b-ms are the reason they aren’t trusted and being forced into attendance monitoring.

Please, leave while you can.

It’s not even that we struggle to come in - it’s the constant layoffs, change in direction, and utter lack of transparency and communication on those matters that impacts employees more than anything. Instead of focusing on improving communication around the issues the company is facing, leadership has decided to focus their attention on hours your butt is in the building, which is laughable.

@cc Dude read the room. This is literally for employees struggling with topics outside of their control or losing freedoms they once had. It has nothing to do with avoiding responsibility. We have loved the company which is why it’s been hard for so many of us to understand the 180 spin senior leaders have taken on this company and the lack of autonomy middle management and employees have to manage flexibility and job security. If you can’t understand that and show some compassion or real solutions and advice, then don’t get upset when you get called out for it. If you were a real Comcaster who cares for the people actually doing the work to keep the company running, you wouldn’t have felt the anger and need to write what you did to dismiss and taunt your fellow colleagues that are struggling. Just sayin’.

@cc you forget, everyone on this board just wants to complain about how bad the company is. Any attempts to push back any behavioral responsibility to the individual will be met with you getting called a "boot li---r" or some other pejorative 🙃

@cc For everyone's sake at this company, I sincerely hope that your job function doesn't require anything resembling complex thought.

@OP it's 4 days a week, it's not that hard to comply. If you don't want to be treated like an elementary school student don't act like one.
