First Oracle is requiring everyone to use an Oracle provided laptop. This means no more BYOD computers of any kind. Furthermore Oracle is going to require everyone to signup with identity scanning AI company own by Palantir. Upload your passport and full face scan. The next big step will be required face scan checks every 15 minutes. This will be an automatic process that will require you to not cover your camera. You will not be notified of this. If your camera is covered you will be locked out. This is where Oracle security is going.

@OP not happening by me. I got the email.. this crosses a lot of lines in a bad way. I zoomed in with my manager and told him he can put me on the riff list because come October 7. I will not have signed up. This crosses some ethical lines.

They aren't firing all of the employees so your Walmart example is just just d-mb. The are implementing technology which will enable them to further identify slackers. I am sure if Walmart catches someone on video shoplifting they will prosecute. If you aren't already laid off, you will likely be in this round or one of the upcoming. Surely the increased monitoring will find you as an employee they don't need if the efforts up to now haven't got you.

To the extent that your post is accurate, it points to a massive failure of our spineless "leadership". Instead of, you know, performing a big part of their jobs, maybe having an uncomfortable conversation or two, and enforcing consequences where appropriate, we take a blanket approach. Little bit easier for them this way.
I'm sure there are people shoplifting right now in your local Walmart. We should send in police to summarily arrest all customers!

They wouldn't be doing this if they weren't being robbed by people collecting paychecks when they are doing little or no work. You can easily find posts by people bragging on this site about how they haven't worked in months or years while it is more common to see the people claiming to only work a few hours. When they get people working 100% of the time and using AI to assist them they will get the headcount down to around 40K. The company will run better for less cost. Bad employee behavior brought this on.

wrt it requiring every 15 mins, that's news to me because according to my sources, the face check is not monitoring. its having you swipe your face in front of the camera at many angles to confirm your identity.

This may be possible in the US, but this kind of surveillance is prohibited in workplace environments in other country jurisdictions with heavy fines.
Oracle provides the foundations for profiling, manipulation and influencing policies and people more than any other company. Larry and his C-suite have indicated this in public forums and in strategy all hands. Techies will not want to think this or speak up because paychecks.
