How astonishingly cheap has Imperial Oil’s management become that they expect employees to bring their own lunch while celebrating one billion barrels produced at Kearl. Fifty billion dollars in potential revenue, and the big reward is… packing your own sandwich. John Whelan, hope things are comfortable up in the penthouse while everyone else is told to brown‑bag it.

…and how cowardly was JW not to even show up for this? Clearly a man of the people, that guy! Yes everyone hates your guts, but for the love of any shred of decency for the company, put on your tight fitting “good manager” hat and show up to the party. The company spent billions on it… get your a-s out there to support your employees. I quote sept 29, 2025: “we care about people…”
Also how cowardly is it that none of the senior executives are willing to take part in the dunk tank? If they actually wanted to raise money for UW, there would be a lineup to dunk them.
@vp Anything this company hands out now gets taxed. They used to give out cheap anniversary and retirement trinkets — at least those were free. They’ve decided to “innovate” the process — now they give you “points”, pretend it’s a perk, and then tax you for the honour of redeeming them. Truly visionary.
@ah a move to Edmonton
Wow! A pick you print for $125 at Kearl! The id--ts in charge could not have missed the mark any further! You choose this, you will probably get taxed! Time for people to send a message. Don’t participate in this!
Wow.
I'm so sorry to hear what you guys are going through.
I worked there many years ago and left a couple of years after the Quarry Park move.
I saw things going down hill, but I didn't think it would get this bad.
Rich Kruger (who I called Freddy Kruger because he liked to "Cut")
Brad Corson Like to Offshore (and cut)
John Whelan is just a flat out psychopath.
You were better off with Freddy Kruger and Nightmare on Elm Street.
I wish you all the best of luck escaping that never ending nightmare.
@ah
Honestly, we can all say the shaft! Run to failure is the motto these days and failing they are!
Layoffs, more layoffs @ah
We were given a small blanket with logo on it when Cold Lake hit the 1B mark.
Let’s see what Kearl gives.
