Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

HR/ PL in the know Please share analytics that chose end date

Can anyone clear up how the decision was made regarding who on the team got earlier release dates such as 9/4 and others got later dates? Most of my team that applied got the early date and our PL shared they still are unaware of who applied. It seems odd corporate or a vendor would decide this.

@aa thank you for being honest and sharing this. I wish you were my PL I wish I would have been given a 9/4 date.

I submitted for the VSP and asked for a June 2027 date (I asked my VP with justification based on the project I’m leading). I got approved with May 2027, not bad.

@aq People leaders will not know all who applied until end of the month. They will also NOT be told who applied and was denied or withdrew their application because some PLs do and will retaliate.

No input and People Leaders still have no idea who took the offer, they are delaying until 7/31 for that communication. I had an employee tell me recently and they were not on my radar, now I'm down another FTE with both leaving on 9/4. Centene did not manage this well!

@aa That’s the way it should have been done in all areas. I’m a VP and was not even consulted on departure dates for my staff!

Sr. Director here. I was asked if I had any concerns about accepting the one application submitted from my team (I did not). I was also asked if I was ok with the September end date and if I wasn’t, I needed a business justification to extend. I was fine with it, but the process was made clear to me.

my understanding is PL had no say and it was chosen based on title/org. most who are managers have dates that are further out.

@a3 please clarify 25% of who applied for the VSP or 25% of the workforce?

And those high level PL have no clue what is happening and the work that is out in their departments to make such an important decisions. I hope they are ready to perform the jobs that their team that they just RIF'd. But I will take a stab that no VP, Sr director, etc will be able to push out the kind of work that some of these employees do day in and day out. Oh thats right they will just outsource to a vendor for $5.39 an hour.

This just shows these Sr. Level folks don't know what we even really do. Alot of ppl are overworked and overwhelmed! Alot of other people like myself and others have no work and didn't get the lucky 9/4 date! Make this make sense. Now we are on pins n needles worried we are going to get fired. And no don't say "well if your not doing anything wrong then why are you worried 🙄) they will find some way to frame us. Highway robbery!

I am a Director and no input was asked for by my level, below or even our Sr. Directors. We were told that the dates were chosen on the SVP/RVP/VP level by Org. based on upcoming deadlines and initiatives. Also, we were told that although Centene did offer VSP to roughly 25% (guestimate we were told), no one expected so many people to accept it. This is a blessing and a curse!!! Blessing to the company because now they have a smaller non voluntary list of people they have to RIF. A curse to the Leaders who were not eligible to apply of these teams who now have no org structure under them because everyone on their team took the deal!!! So my question is: does this mean those Leaders will now be moved somewhere OR will they be put on the non voluntary RIF list to no fault of their own? There are lower level management who are actually good Leaders and work hard for the company and their staff but they might be laid off now because they little to no staff!!! I want to see how many VP's and C-Suite level staff will still be standing after this all ends!!! I know they are moving to offshore/onshore vendors to save FTE SG&A but this is insane!!!

It might depend on Org. My org, the VP picked the dates with no input from team leads. Other orgs, the VP asked the Dir for input. My gut says, the decisions were made by VP / Sr VP level folks with min direct feedback. Not a single Mgr / Sup was involved from what i saw - all senior level folks making the call.
