@ek Sounds like a group of non-union people I used to work with.

@eb laziest, greediest, most selfish people I’ve ever worked with. They’ll be nice to your face then stab you in the back as soon as it suits them.

Unfortunately, all the pre 2008 members are greedy and they are not my brother when I see them in the garage. They are no different than management.

@at you need clinical thinking skills. You say a union can’t help you with the stress of constant threat of being riffed. Hello!? Union employees don’t have that stress, because like I said in an earlier post, we can’t get riffed.

@bz 100% completely untrue. The retiree healthcare issue was addressed in January (and was in the process since October 2025) because with the state of politics/the world an extension was always the goal as they did not want to “open” the contract and go full bargaining. Of course retiree healthcare was a major issue but to attempt to fully try to fix that would need FULL bargaining. Dan taking over or his layoff message had zero impact in that.
The union never factually “changed positions”, you are talking about pre bargaining where they were trying to address that without going to full bargaining and just do an extension. Those talks didn’t workout so they STILL did not go full bargaining and got an extension done…which was always the realistic plan even under Hans

@bz you’re right union can be subjected to layoffs, but only after every contractor has been laid off 1st. Contractors save the company so much money they wouldn’t think of it

@bb you wanna talk about vacation time? Let’s talk about how non union new hires get three weeks but union new hires only get two. Let’s talk about how non union employees get 2 additional paid vacations. Let’s talk about how union pay maxes out at band 8, the LOWEST non union employee pay band.

@ar be careful with what you say . I guarantee you wisps and layoffs WERE discussed in the extension talks. The union position changed from Retiree healthcare being negotiated in August to when Dan took over quick early settlement after 13k were riff . I wasn’t there but I guarantee you threats were made on Union workforce layoffs . Those don’t come until management has finished .

@at people like this dude don't understand that a 5 day work week, 8 hour workday or statutory vacation entitlement are not God given 11th commandment but generations of employees before him had to fight for it

@a9 stop embarrassing yourself and try to learn how communism differs from social welfare and social democracy. Your narrow minded views are a caricature of education.

Note: I'm not in a union and never been

@a9 when employees compete against each other, the only real winners are the companies. If you want to climb a ladder then go into management.

i see the 'red scare' of 50s-60s worked wonders on people. open up your eyes and look at the developed nations and how they handle their worker's rights. everyone on this forum sh--s on people not speaking up for bad practices/poor processes, well that is what you get, when all people can think of is not being on the next RIF list. i would argue the constant stress of that alone, is what ki-ls innovation. unions is the answer to that.

now if you want to argue about badly run unions, that is another topic.

sh-----g on unions, what they stand for is just stupid. everything you have, you owe it to people coming together, unionizing and asking for their rights.

@a4 union employees don’t get riffed. Management wishes they had a union right now. For all the non management employees, if you don’t know how the union benefits you, get another job, stop crying about it and move on. You sound like trump still talking about the 2020 election that he lost.

@a9 NAILED IT... although I'd just say "low performers" vs losers... disagree there.

Communism doesn’t work in government and it doesn’t work in the workplace either. Unions take away the incentive for employees to compete with their peers and perform to earn more. They protect low performing losers while holding back ambitious employees. They restrict career growth and the ability to learn new skills.

Unions aren’t the answer. If your job role is falling out of alignment with the company’s goals then I suggest taking advantage of upskilling and/or tuition reimbursement to learn more relevant skills.
